Mazda 2 Sedan

The Mazda 2 sedan is available in three variants-Neo, Maxx and GT. Primarily a sedan sibling to Mazda 2 hatchback, it comes with an additional boot and is hands down the more practical option out of the two models. Under the hood, the Mazda 2 sedan gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine with a manual and an automatic gearbox. The reduced noise in the sedan makes the cabin quieter, hence improving ride quality. Talking of utility points in the cabin, it gets just a handful of storage spaces. Also, the cabin is layered with an array of comfort, connectivity and driver assistance bits. 

Styling on the outside is suave featuring elements such as a chrome enclosed wide grille which connects to the pulled back LED headlamps through a chrome trim. The bumper gets a small strip of air-inlets on the lower side, while the L-shaped housings for the LED fog lamps are placed at its edge. At the side, it sports pronounced wheel arches, body painted door handles, prominent character lines, large alloy wheels and a short window frame which narrows towards the rear. The swooping wrap-around tail-lamps are the talking point of the rear, while reflectors, raked in the windscreen, chrome-tipped exhaust extensions and a mundane bumper at the back round up the rear styling. 

The Mazda 2 sedan measures 260 mm longer than its hatchback sibling, however, the cabin space remains same. While knee room is cramped, it has comfortable shoulder space and headroom. In terms of material quality, the hard plastic used on the armrest is a bit of a put-off, however, the overall plastic quality on the inside is satisfactory. The front seats are comfortable and are placed at a good height. On the contrary, the rear seats are not spacious enough for full-grown adults and hence are best suited for kids. Some practical bits such as door pockets, folding function for the armrest are missing. As mentioned in the beginning, the major distinguishing point between the Mazda 2 hatchback and sedan is the boot. At 440-litre, it is around 190-litre more spacious than the cargo space offered in Mazda 2 hatchback. 

The list of features on the sedan includes a climate control, one-touch power windows, audio system with six speakers, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, Bluetooth connectivity, internet radio integration, satellite navigation, Multi-function commander, steering wheel mounted audio controls, USB port, AUX-in and a bunch of others. Drawing the Mazda 2 sedan is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with 79kW of power against 139 Nm of peak torque. Transmission choices include a manual unit and a six-speed automatic gearbox. The long list of safety features on the sedan includes an advanced keyless push-button engine start, multiple SRS airbags, anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, blind-spot monitoring, child restraint anchor points, and dynamic stability control. The reverse camera is also a part of the pack along with hill launch assist, intrusion minimising brake pedal, parking sensors, traction control system and whiplash-minimising front seats.
