Mazda MX-5

The Mazda MX-5 received updates last year which primarily included the addition of a more powerful 2.0-litre engine and some new features in the roadster range. While it gets a new engine, changes have been made to the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated SkyActiv four-cylinder engine which now comes with pressure fuel pump and injectors along with reworked piston crowns that increases torque and improves combustion efficiency. The soft-top version of Mazda MX-5 comes in Roadster and Roadster GT variants, while the RF version is offered in three trims namely, RF, RF GT, and RF GT Black Roof. These variants come in Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Machine Grey Metallic, Snowflake White Pearl Mica, Jet Black Mica, Eternal Blue Mica, and Ceramic Metallic colour options. 

Set at a low height (1,225 mm), the classic roadster has a ground clearance of 125 mm (laden), it measures around 3,915 mm long and is 1,735 mm wide. The overhang in front (760 mm) is slightly shorter compared to rear (845 mm). At the front, it sports LED-equipped headlamps with auto on/off function and rear packs tail-lamps with LED units. The door handles are painted in body colour and it gets stainless steel exhaust extensions. Wing mirrors on the sides can be adjusted electrically and the 2-speed wipers come with rain-sensing function. There is a standard rear window demister and the soft-top version gets a cloth roof atop. 

Interiors of this classic roadster are packed to the gill when it comes to features. The standard lighting package inside comprises instrument panel dimmer, entry system with delayed fade and map reading lamp. Featuring a two-seat layout, it gets rake and slide adjustment for driver and passenger seats. Also, air-conditioner with climate control, power windows with one touch-down function and an Auxiliary 12 volt power outlet are other bits that are layered inside. Ambient lighting, critical function warning lights, cruise control, centre armrest console, etc. are some of the other interior features that are offered with the standard kit. As for higher trims, they additionally come with heated seats, leather upholstery, rear-view mirror with auto-dimming function and several other bits. 

Connectivity is given prominence in the new Mazda MX-5 as it gets a 7-inch colour touchscreen supported by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Auxiliary-audio input jack, Bluetooth connectivity, six-speakers multi-function commander control, satellite navigation, steering mounted controls for audio and USB-audio input port are all part of the pack. Under the hood, it gets a 1.5-litre, in-line, four-cylinder DOHC petrol engine with 97kW at 7000 rpm against 152 Nm torque at 4,500 rpm. This engine is available with a manual and an automatic gearbox. There is also a 2.0-litre, in-line, four-cylinder DOHC petrol unit with 135 kW of power at 7000 rpm along with 205 Nm torque at 4000 rpm. This unit is paired to a six-speed SkyActive manual transmission and an automatic unit is also available. The safety suite comprises a raft of features such as multiple airbags, anti-lock braking system, blind spot monitoring, automatic transmission kickdown switch, driver attention alert, dynamic stability control, advanced keyless push button engine start, emergency stop signal, reverse camera and a host of other tech.
