Sleeker, smarter, louder and faster, meet the new Ford Mustang. The Blue Oval’s iconic pony car has been given a major upgrade over three years after going on sale in Australia for the first time as an official Ford model. There are three trim levels on offer, GT, GT Premium and GT Convertible.

The exterior has been sharpened up with a new lower bonnet and LED headlights at the front and quad exhaust pipe tips at the rear. Make your way to the side, you get 5.0 batching within that front fender, also body coloured side mirrors come standard. There is a more accentuated front splitter and heated side mirrors with integrated turn-signals if you go with the performance pack level. It comes with 18 inches aluminium alloy wheels as standard. Getting to the back of GT, there is a rear lip spoiler.

One area that has a lot of attention paid to is the interior, which came in for a lot of criticism on the previous model because of its blunt and usage of a lot of fairly cheap hard plastic inside. There is still a little bit but they have worked to soften up the touch point like the steering wheel. There is some premium touch inside the cabin as well including the new 12.14 inches digital dashboard. You get heated and ventilated leather front seats. When it comes to the sound system, standard setup will give you six-speakers. However, you can opt for a nine-speaker system as well. 

Under the bonnet, the 5L V8 has been given a tweak to up the performance to 454 hp of maximum power at 7000 rpm and 556 Nm of torque at 4600 rpm. The power is transmitted to a six-speed manual transmission. You can also opt for the 10-speed automatic transmission, which also features paddle shifter. The 0-60 sprint with the 10-speed comes in at 3.9 seconds, while the figure stands at 4.4 seconds for the manuals. The overall top-speed is 157 mph. There is also a new active exhaust system with four settings, quiet, normal, sports, and race track to ensure the V8’s bark matches its part. You really need to take this beast to a race-track to unleash 454 horses. The suspension coupled with the Michelin Pilot tyres and some other updates to the suspension means it is a lot sharper when you turn in and have some fun on the track as well as on the roads. 

Slowing things down, upfront you get 14 inches ventilated disc with four-piston front callipers and at the back, it comes with 13 inches rear disc with single piston callipers. You get plenty of airbags for your safety. Other safety features include automatic high beams, lane keeping alert, pre-collision assist, and blind spot monitoring system with rear cross traffic alerts
