Mazda 3, 6, CX-5 recalled, concern carbon accumulation

Mazda recently issued a recall notice for the diesel variants of its Mazda 3, Mazda 6 and CX-5 model lines. Mazda recall concerns the build-up of carbon deposits that could result in early wear off certain engine parts.

The company officials quoted, “The affected vehicles may accumulate carbon deposits in the intake shutter valve". It implies that if the carbon collects in the value or the car experiences the defect in certain engine equipment, the following symptoms may have occurred:

• A gradual drop in engine power.
• Multiple warning lights to display on the driver's dashboard.
• A gradual increase in vehicle stopping distance.
• Potential engine stall with no re-start.
• Smoke may emit from the engine compartment.

And if anything like that is experienced by the driver, the chances of accident or injury for the driver and other road users increases.

A VIN list of total 35,476 Mazda recall vehicles (available for sale between 26 January 2012 - 10 August 2018) is provided by the automaker which may get affected by the aforementioned defect. It is segregated as:

• Mazda 3 diesel: Model Years 2014-2016
• Mazda 6 diesel: Model Years 2012-2018
• Mazda CX-5 diesel: Model Years 2012-2018

The owners of the affected cars will get a notification from Mazda Australia requesting them to contact their nearest Mazda dealer and schedule an appointment for inspection and repair of the affected parts and also a complete software update of ECU free of cost.

A few days ago, Mazda recalls CX-9 crossover for the 2017 model-year due to wiring issues that could cause "communication errors" between the vehicle's control modules. The list of 1280 vehicles was announced which were available for sale between 16 October 2017 and 6 February 2019.
