We already possess a new Volkswagen Golf Mark VIII and Ford Focus, and now the PSA Group has given the Vauxhall and Opel Astra range an upgrade.

On the outside, the revisions are limited to a new grille design that now gets shutters, and the front and rear bumper are also redesigned. In addition, the Astra also showcases new headlight internals with matrix LED tech available in range-topping trim.

The hatch now is confirmed to have a drag coefficient of 0.26, and that can be attributed to the various underbody improvements. Included in the list are deflector-shaped control arms for the rear axle and new engine compartment cover. The Cd for the wagon version (no longer offered in Australia) too have been reduced to 0.25. Also, both the vehicles are considered to be the most slippery ones in their respective segment.

The standard Astra, in Europe, is available in four turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine choices - 1.2-litre mill is offered in three tunings 110 PS /195 Nm, 131 PS / 225 Nm, and 145 PS / 225 Nm, and lastly, a 1.4-litre mill churns 145 PS / 236 Nm. While the 1.2-litre mills are coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the 1.4-litre unit comes along with a CVT unit with 7-speed mode.

Diesel options are also on-board in the form of a 1.5-litre turbodiesel mill that’s available in three tunings - 105 PS / 260 Nm, 122 PS / 300 Nm, and 122 PS/ 285 Nm. While the first two units are paired to a 6-speed manual, the third one gets a 9-speed automatic transmission.

On the inside, the car now benefits from several new equipment like - heated windscreen, digital speedometer, and wireless smartphone charging. The specs sheet of the range-topping Asta trim also includes Insignia’s 8.0-inch touchscreen Multimedia Navi Pro infotainment system and a digital rearview mirror. In Europe, An emergency call feature now replaces the GM OnStar subscription.

The safety kit of the car also receives a boost, and it now includes a new front camera system that processes a greater quantity of traffic signs and detects pedestrians quickly.
