Audi S5 Cabriolet

The entire interior cabin of the Audi S5 Cabriolet is a great mix of elegance and futuristic appeal, without going too overboard in any of the two aspects. This convertible car has a retractable soft top, which opens up to cover all the four seats in just 15 seconds.

The dashboard has been shared with the A5 Coupe, with the driver’s cockpit consisting of a good to hold flat bottom steering wheel and a full TFT instrument console showcasing Audi’s latest version of virtual cockpit behind it.

The centre console too feels up to date, thanks to the floating type touchscreen infotainment system right at the middle, and an array of buttons for climate control below it in a sleek housing. The centre tunnel between the front seats too feels premium, with impeccable fit and finish and a nice tactile feel in all the buttons.

Designed on the lines of the A5 Coupe, the Audi S5 Cabriolet has got a great base to begin with, considering the fact that how beautiful the A5 itself looks. Topping up the retractable soft top roof, and the Audi S5 Cabriolet garners a great road presence.

The Audi S5 Cabriolet comes with the same chrome bathed hexagonal grille with multiple chrome slats and Audi’s logo embossed at the centre, as in the A5 Coupe. Even the wraparound full LED headlamps with inverted double L-shaped daytime running LEDs are lifted off from the A5.

The Audi S5 Cabriolet manages to look quite elegant when viewed from the side, with a long profile, two door look, silver finish on the A-pillar and large alloy wheels. The waistline, like in a typical convertible car, has a wraparound theme and is finished in chrome, giving it a nice contrast.

The side profile is also characterised by a smooth curve flowing all the way from the edge of the headlamp to that of the tail lamp. At the rear, the Audi S5 Cabriolet has got slim tail lamps with L-shaped LED inserts, which makes the rear look quite sleek in general.

For a convertible car, the Audi S5 Cabriolet has got a great ride quality, with the Quattro system working flawlessly. The overall handling is spot on, and one can never feel a weak spot in any point of drive or immediate steers. However, the rear seats are best suited for kids especially on longer routes, for the limited knee room makes things quite uncomfortable for adults.

The Audi S5 Cabriolet shares its 3.0 litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine with the S5 Coupe, which happens to be the only engine option for this vehicle. Coupled to an 8-speed tiptronic transmission, the S5 Cabriolet’s engine produces 354 PS of maximum power and 500 Nm of peak torque. The engine transfers the power to all four wheels via the Quattro all wheel drivetrain, and can propel the car from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.1 seconds.

The Audi S5 Cabriolet is equipped with many state of the art safety features, like attention assist, Audi pre-sense city with autonomous emergency braking and pedestrian detection, electromechanical parking brake, electronic stability control with electronic wheel-selective torque control, ABS, ASR, EDL and Brake Assist, front and side airbags and tire pressure monitoring system.

With not so intimidating performance levels but the road presence of an entry level sportscar, the Audi S5 Cabriolet tries to be the best of both worlds and makes it a special car to be with. It looks distinctive yet so practical as a daily drive, and with all the modern elements and features in and out, it feels a very much upmarket car.
