Hyundai IONIQ obtains five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating

The Hybrid, Electric and Plug-in versions of the new IONIQ has maintained the maximum rating of five stars for crash safety from Euro NCAP. The variants with electrified powertrain sit among the safest vehicles in their segment. When it comes to the security of adults and young pedestrians, occupants or its aiding safety systems, the New IONIQ sets examples in all Euro NCAP rating guidelines and not only in its class but in contrast with more costly vehicles in more significant segments.

Vice President of Marketing and Product Hyundai Motor Europe HQ, Andreas-Christoph Hofmann said that “This five-star award from Euro NCAP shows that our strategy of offering safety features in smaller classes and also in combination with alternative drives is the correct one. The New Hyundai IONIQ is a very modern vehicle concept that has everything the customer needs.” 

Ioniq Crash Test

The new IONIQ is aided with loads of passive safety features and lightweight yet rigid chassis and body. But to prevent misfortunes from occurring in the first place, IONIQ is equipped with SmartSense safety systems, which incorporates technologies that actively block potential risk circumstances. The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist that sends an alert in emergency situations and automatically applies the brakes comes standard. This system is actuated when another car, a pedestrian or cyclist arrives in front of the car. Standard equipment also incorporates Lane Keeping Assist, which prevents the vehicle from accidentally crossing the lane. Other safety features such as Rear Cross-traffic Collision Warning and Blind-spot Collision Warning are available as options.

High-strength steel alloys guarantee optimal high-impact force absorption. These exceptional steel alloys estimating for 53 percent of IONIQ’s overall construction. In the case of a disaster, a total of seven airbags defend the tenants inside, including an added knee airbag for the driver.
