Hyundai Ioniq Review 2024
Hyundai has introduced hybrid Ioniq, that runs with coupled mechanical and electrical power. Hyundai has advanced the mechanics by characterising the Ioniq into hybrid and plug-in hybrid models.
Hybrid models are powered by a 1.6L Atkinson GDi hybrid engine that belongs to the kappa family and 32kw electric motor connected with 1.56kwh lithium-ion polymer battery. Moreover, it’s the combination of electrical and mechanical power, where the electrical motor and engine work as per the road conditions so that you can get power when needed. Ioniq hybrid’s system works smartly as when you start the vehicle it takes power from the electric motor. And, while steadily travelling at mid- to- high speeds it takes power from the engine, also while accelerating or moving uphill the 1.6L kappa engine automatically takes power with an electric motor to make ride fuel-efficient. And, in case of deceleration or downhill ride, engine gets turned off and kinetic energy that generates from braking is converted into electrical energy to recharge the battery.
Whereas, plug-in hybrid models are powered by a 1.6L Atkinson GDi plug-in hybrid engine, and 44.5kw electric motor connected with 8.9kwh lithium-ion polymer battery. That can be fully charged within 135 minutes, and that can be used to travel up to 63 km in EV mode.
Both plug-in and hybrid models are available in two trims Elite and Premium.
In addition, the power and torque output of both models are similar and they can produce a maximum combined power of 104KW and 265 Nm torque. Whereas, when on engine only mode, the 1.6L GDi engine can produce a maximum power of 77kw @ 5,700 rpm and torque of 147 Nm @ 4,000 rpm.
Hybrid and plug-in hybrid comes with standard DCT transmission and shares a lot of standard exteriors and interior features like when it comes to the exteriors, you’ll get heated and power-adjustable exterior mirrors, with puddle lamps (available in Premium trims), LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights, LED high mounted stoplights, LED rear combination lights, LED courtesy lights and side repeaters.
And, in terms of interiors you’ll get standard vanity mirror lights, fade-out delay light, safety reflectors, cargo area light, glove box compartment, cabin air filter, leather-wrapped steering wheel, front and rear power windows, solar control windshield glass, 8-inch touchscreen display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, satellite navigation, 8-speakers with amplifier, front centre console armrest storage with 2X12V output, rear cooling/heating vents.
Apart from these features, Hyundai has also kept many essential safety and security features standard, such as smart remote, central locking, impact sensing auto door lock, seven airbags, curtain airbags, parking distance warning reverse sensor with guidance display, lane-keeping assist, smart cruise control, forward collision assist, rear traffic collision warning, driver attention warning, blind-spot collision warning, and emergency stop signal.
Also, to make driving enjoyable Hyundai has kept ABS, brake assist system (BAS), EBD, HAC, TCS, VSM, smart key with push start button start standard among all Iconiq trims.
Hyundai offers 8-years battery warranty with Ioniq plug-in hybrid model and its driveaway cost starts from $45,262 - $50,570. Whereas, hybrid variant’s driveaway cost starts from $37,891 - $43,654.
