2019 Audi A6 & A7 recalled, concern faulty passenger airbag

Audi recently issued a recall notice for the 2019 model-year A6 and A7 over the concern of passenger airbag which does not meet the applicable standards. As reported, the recall is not related to Takata airbag recall.

The company officials explained it as, “The defect relates to balance of the trigger times between the belt tensioner and passenger airbag” and warns, “it may increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants on the passenger side of the vehicle during the deployment of the passenger airbag.”

A VIN list of a total of 150 vehicles from the A6 and A7 line-up (manufactured between June 2018 and July 2019) is provided by the automaker which may get affected by the aforementioned defect.

The owners of the affected cars will get a notification from Audi Australia requesting them to contact their nearest Audi dealer and schedule an appointment for inspection and repair. For more information, consumers can call on 24-hour toll-free number 1800 50 AUDI (2834). Further, the original notice provided by the company can also be checked.

In the context of airbag recall, it is known that the Takata airbag recall is the largest recall ever happened in the history of the auto industry. The carmakers like Toyota, Honda, Acura. Fiat Chrysler and Ford, all are included in Takata airbag recall and have issued massive callback notices for millions of cars with the defective airbags installed and spend hundreds of millions in settlements.

The faulty Takata airbags' inflators contain a defect that can cause them to explode and propel shrapnel into drivers and passengers. Though Takata has sought the cover of bankruptcy protection but the recall on Takata’s defective airbag inflators is expected to force the recall of over 100 million vehicles by the end of 2019.  Stay tuned to Zigwheels Australia for more such insights.
