2020 Toyota Yaris GR4 teased, will arrive with an all-wheel-drive
With a teaser video that lasts for a mere 25 seconds, Toyota has teased the upcoming Toyota Yaris GR-4. Toyota had earlier planned to reveal the car at Rally Australia in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. However, the plan could not come to fruition due to bushfires. In the video, the Toyota Yaris GR-4 can be wearing camouflage and kitted up with an aggressive body kit. Also, there are LED tail lamps and LED headlamps with built-in LED DRLs. The camouflage is very similar to what the all-new GR Supra was seen wearing during its testing and developmental phase.
Reports suggest that the upcoming Toyota Yaris GR-4 will succeed the European Yaris GRMN. Toyota has also given its streetcars the moniker of GT4 and GT-Four, especially the ones that flaunted and all-wheel-drive system, rally-inspired looks, and other similar updates.
The Toyota Yaris GR-4 will not only handle better but also feature a lighter and stiffer underpinning. With that said, under the muscular & aggressive body structure of the Toyota Yaris GR-4 will be the GA-B platform, which is a modified version of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). Besides that, the rally-inspired Toyota Yaris GR-4 can also be seen with a wider than the standard model rear track and much more aggressive aerodynamics.
Toyota had teased the Yaris GR-4 earlier in the previous month as well. And, the automaker also cited that the European rally-inspired GR-4 will be powered by a 1.8-litre supercharged engine. As for Australia, the on-offer Toyota Yaris is available in ASCENT, SX, and ZR models with the price ranging from $18,515 to $25,868. While the Yaris ASCENT is powered by a 1.3-litre VVT-I petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 88 hp at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 120 Nm at 4,000 rpm, the SX and ZR variants receive their juices from a 1.5-litre VT-I petrol engine generating 108 hp at 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm at 4,400 rpm. All three variants can be had with a four-speed automatic, whereas there is also a five-speed manual gearbox that can be availed with the Ascent and SX models only.
