2020 Toyota Yaris GR-4 teaser released, might have AWD

Australia’s most liked car brand Toyota is coming up with the rally-inspired version of its popular hatch Yaris soon. Ahead of the prototype’s public debut, the teaser of European-market Yaris has been released by the firm. As per the teaser, the high-performance version will be a successor to the Yaris GRMN.

While observing the teaser closely, it can be said that the performance Yaris will have a wider rear track and more aggressive aerodynamics compared to the standard car. The picture shows the same camouflage as the GR Supra prototype wore during its prolonged reveal process.

One more significant observation can be noted here i.e., the nameplate GR-4 which hints at getting all-wheel-drive for better performance. This can be seen in the light of other rally-inspired model names launched by the brand in the past, GT4 and GT-Four which were loaded with the all-wheel-drive feature.

About the new Yaris versions, Toyota has already confirmed that the model will be getting multiple performance versions. It is also rumored that sporty end of the range would give three options to the buyers- mildly warm GR Sport, hotter GRMN, and a new model taking direct inspiration from the Yaris competing in the World Rally Championship. But which version has been teased here is not yet clear.

Under the hood, the new Yaris will be based on Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) chassis dubbed GA-B which is lighter and stiffer than earlier. The carmaker also confirmed that this limited-run model powered by a 1.8-litre supercharged engine is being developed for the European market only.

The official premiere of the rally-inspired Yaris prototype is scheduled on November 17 at Rally Australia in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. So stay tuned to Zigwheels Australia for knowing more about the hot Yaris.
