Subaru recalls its Impreza and XV 2019 over potential seatbelt issue
Subaru Australia has recalled a total of 721 examples of the Impreza small car and XV small SUV over a potential issue with their seatbelts. The problem indicates a defect due to the incorrect manufacturing of the vehicles.
The issue has been suspected to arise over the cars which had been produced during the model year 2019. The automaker indicates that one of the two locking mechanisms in their rear seatbelts might not lock during the time of an accident, led due to a manufacturing defect.
As per the official statement of product safety of Australia, “If one of the locking mechanisms in the seatbelt does not function, the wearer may not be properly restrained, increasing the risk of injury or death to the vehicle occupants.”
The cars have been recalled as a preventive measure because if any such incident does occur, where the occupants of the vehicle may not be adequately restrained, it could result in the risk of injury and/or death to vehicle occupants.
The owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by Subaru Australia and will be asked to arrange an appointment for inspection and repair, free of charge. The owners can contact their nearest Subaru Dealership or the Subaru Customer Relations Team for further information.
