Subaru Outback Review 2024
Subaru Outback is one of the best selling wagons. It comes standard with the intelligent all-wheel-drive system, offers superior infotainment system, spacious cabin and cargo area, sufficient ground clearance, and better traction control than its rivals. This year’s Outback is a bit more safe to ride, it comes standard with EyeSight advanced safety suite, that consists of adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and autonomous emergency braking.
This wagon is a perfect blend of a sports car and smooth handling of a hatch. In fact, with the raised ground clearance, it rides much better on the gravel roads than many bulky SUV’s out there. With all such characteristics, it can be a perfect five-seater replacement for the SUV vehicles.
It’s powered by the same Boxer engine, and power is transmitted to the wheels via the continuous variable transmission system. It’s well refined and responses quickly to the driver’s input, and offers ample power with efficient fuel consumption.

Subaru Outback Interior & Features
Apart from the rocky exterior design, Outback’s cabin is constructed well. It gives you a premium feel of an expensive car. You’ll enjoy the interiors, it's a spacious five-seater. It offers enough space for headroom and legroom for both front and rear passengers. For driver’s convenience, the leather-wrapped steering wheel can be adjustable for height and reach. Taking passengers convenience ahead, Outback offers premium Harman Kardon audio system with 576-watt GreenEdge amplifier fitted with 12 speakers, dual-zone air-conditioning that works satisfactorily, you can set different temperatures for either side of the cabin.
Also, its cargo space stands at 35.5 cubic feet that can be extended up to 73.3 cubic feet by folding rear passenger seats. These numbers are much more than what Outback’s rivals offer.
Outback Exterior
There’s nothing much special about the exteriors of Outback, it looks modest, elongated, and narrow. With its rugged looks, this crossover might not appeal to everyone. But overall it's built strong. And, its exterior features amplify the character and design of this wagon, such as body-colored door handle with chrome finish, welcome lighting, lighter and more stylish aluminum alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, roof rails, fog lights, auto on-off wiper-linked headlights, etc.
Subaru Outback Ride & Handling
There’s no doubt that Subaru has been known for producing the world’s one of the best cars in terms of handling and ride quality. Similarly, Outback gives you smooth and controlled handling, it leans less over edges and with torque vectoring, it enables you to take sharp turns with ease.
Subaru’s all-wheel-drive system works intelligently, it only sends power to the front wheels if rear wheels begin to slip. And, when the vehicle gets in a normal situation, it evenly sends power to the front and rear wheels. But, Outback is a light-duty off-roader, and it’s best to limit the drive to gravel tracks and snow-covered roads.
Outback Engine & Fuel Consumption
Just like the grades of Subaru Outback, it is available in two drivetrains. 2.5i variants are powered by the 2.5 liters DOHC Subaru Boxer engine with Active Valve Control System (AVCS). This engine can produce a maximum power of 175hp at 5,800rpm, and torque of 174lb-ft at 4,000rpm. In addition, another engine option is available in 3.6R variants that are powered by the 3.6 liters DOHC Subaru Boxer engine with Dual Active Valve Control System (DAVCS) that unfolds the power of 256hp at 6,000rpm, and torque of 247lb-ft at 4,400rpm.
In terms of transmission, all outback are automatics. Subaru has refined the CVT considerably. The 2.5i variants come with automatic Lineartronic CVT. Whereas, 3.6R variants are matched with Lineartronic High-torque CVT.
Subaru Outback Braking & Safety
New generation Outbacks comes standard with Subaru’s EyeSight suite. It’s an advanced safety system that helps to prevent front collision through pre-collision braking and throttle management. This suite also includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure, lane-keep assist and sway warning. Available standard safety features include a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, LED steering responsive headlights, and reverse automatic braking.
Outback Verdict
Subaru has used its decades of experience to design the best wagon vehicle. Outback shines among its rival, it gives you best in class storage capacity, enough space for passengers, comfortable seats, luxurious and quieter cabin. With the standard safety features and all-wheel-drive system, you can safely do the offroad trips. However, the base grade sluggish performance engine might not go well with the characteristic of this car. And, you can fix this issue by opting for Outback trims powered by the six-cylinder engine.
