Subaru recalls Impreza, XV models in Australia
Subaru recalls Impreza and XV models in Australia over the concern of two separate faults. It is reported that around 80,000 cars are included in this recall.
The first recall affects total 54,715 Subaru vehicles which are segregated as:
- 25,672 Impreza sedans and hatches (manufactured from 2017 to 2019)
- 29,043 XV hatchbacks (manufactured from 2018 to 2019)
The fault is mentioned as “improper Engine Control Module programming” which may lead to an ignition coil short circuit. The firm stated, “Under certain circumstances, the ignition coil may be energised longer than designed, when the engine is switched off, which could cause a short circuit or a fuse to blow, potentially causing restart failure or stalling.”
In this case, the vehicle needs reprogramming of the engine management computer and inspection of the ignition coil. If ignition coil damage is detected then it will be replaced with a new one. As per the firm, the inspection time is just 30 minutes and if the coil will be needed to replace, then it will take around one hour.
Moving to the second recall, it includes 25,329 Subaru cars, segregated as:
- 15,010 Impreza sedans and hatches (manufactured from 2017 to 2019)
- 10,319 XV (manufactured from 2018 to 2019)
The fault mentioned here is related to the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve. The firm explained it as, “The crankcase vapour recirculation device may separate and allow engine oil to enter the combustion chamber. If the PCV valve separates and oil enters the combustion chamber, excessive smoke may be released and the vehicle may experience an engine power loss.”
Here, replacing the PCV valve from an aluminium type to steel will just take 15 minutes. But if it found broken then the repair will take some additional time.
The owners of the affected cars will get a notification from Subaru Australia requesting them to contact their nearest Subaru dealer and schedule an appointment for inspection and free of cost repair. For more information, customers can call on 1300 550 994.
