Kia Australia recalls the Optima sedan
It was earlier today that Kia Australia issued a recall notice for the Optima sedan - 2018 to 2020 model year. The recall concerns the issue of the failed activation of the autonomous braking system in the car.
According to Kia, the ‘Frontal Collision-Avoidance Assist’ software may be at fault, which means the emergency brake function may fail to activate when the car approaches an ideal vehicle. If such a scenario did occur, the Kia Optima’s “braking assist might not activate during a frontal collision, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants and other road users”.
To be precise, 667 units of Optima are affected by the recent recall, all sold between 21st December 2018 to 2nd August 2019. The Korean car manufacturer has released a VIN list that owners can check at its website.
A Kia Australia spokesperson on the matter said, “there have been no reports of Forward Collision Warning software failure in Australia and no reports of accidents which could relate to it”.
Kia will contact the owners of the affected Optima vehicles via mail. And it is advised by the company to get in touch with the nearest dealer soon and arrange the vehicle inspection and repair. According to the automaker, the whole repair process would take approximately 45 minutes.
