2021 Kia Sorento official teaser images released
Kia has confirmed the debut of its 2021 Sorento via official new teaser images. The mid-size SUV will witness its fourth generation in the market and will be replacing the third-generation model that entered production in 2016.
The new model is set to make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. As per reports, the vehicle will ride on a new platform dedicated to the SUV. The newly developed platform aims towards offering more space inside the cabin than other competitors in its segment.
Talking about the enhanced cabin space, Kia said that it “raises standards in its segment for practicality” and will adopt a hybrid powertrain for the first time. The forthcoming offering by the automaker is all set to be an electrically-assisted crossover, developed under the codename MQ4.
The future Sorento is assumed to borrow cues from the Imagine EV concept, previously displayed at the Geneva Motor Show. With an updated styling and more sporty styling, the vehicle is assumed to carry a hard look. The Sorento is planned to rival the likings of other SUVs in its segments like the Mazda CX-9, Holden Acadia and the related Hyundai Santa Fe.
Previously, Kia had showcased an electrified Sorento with a diesel hybrid concept at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The powertrain of the vehicle combined a four-cylinder 1.6-litre engine, producing a maximum output of 163 hp mated to a 40 hp electric motor and a dual-clutch automatic transmission. The car obtained ultra-low emissions of just 119 grams of CO2 per kilometres.
Lastly, the car can be excepted to arrive with a diesel model in the Australian market in the second quarter of 2020.
