2021 Hyundai i30 unveiled ahead of Geneva debut

The 2020 Geneva Motor Show is just around a week away, but Hyundai is not considering to wait that long. The automaker has unveiled the facelifted form of the i30 in three different body styles. However, these body styles (fastback, hatchback, and wagon) aren’t the regular versions as the wagon gets the N Line trim for the very first time.

The aesthetic changes are mostly similar to the older model, especially on the sides. A few notable changes come in the form of the rear bumper, which has been tweaked a little on the designing. The taillights’ design is inspired by the headlight, and surely the V-shaped mimick does look great. The i30 now gets three new colour options - Pewter Gray, Charcoal Gray and Ebony Brown.

Get inside the cabin and you will still see a lot of changes. The new Hyundai i30 now gets a big 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display that gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Even the 7-inch driver’s digital display is new now. The safety features also have been bulged now, thanks to the addition of vehicle departure alert, rear collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring and lane following assist.

Mechanically, the previous 1.4-litre engine has been replaced with a newer 1.5-litre unit that is capable of making 158 hp of power and 254 Nm of torque. It has a mild hybrid powertrain as standard and can be had in both manual and automatic transmission. The smaller 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder engine can be opted with or without the hybrid powertrain. It is capable of churning out a maximum power of 118 hp and a peak torque of 172 Nm.

The 2021 Hyundai i30 will also be available with a 1.6-litre diesel engine variant. The engine makes 280 Nm of torque in the manual trim and 300 Nm of torque on the DCT unit, though the power figure is standard at 113 hp.

Despite being unveiled already, Hyundai will showcase it at the Geneva Motor Show too. More information on the car will be available post the showcase. Hyundai Australia presently sells the i30 N and i30 Fastback N and the wagon body model is not included in the lineup.
