2020 Kia Sorento recalled over braking issue
Kia Australia has recalled a total of 3315 units of its 2020 Sorento. The cars were called back due to an error in Front Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) software, creating concerns over the autonomous emergency braking system.
According to Kia, the car’s braking assist function might fail when the vehicle approaches another stationary vehicle or pedestrian. Failing to function efficiently on the roads, Sorento may pose a threat to the automaker’s reputation and also increase the risk of the injury of occupants of the vehicle.
The affected owners of the car are said to be contacted directly over email by Kia, as the company will arrange a free fix for them at their nearest dealerships.
Sorento is the automaker’s latest offering in the mid-size SUV segment and features a three-row seating arrangement. The vehicle is run by a 2.4 litre DOHC I-4 engine, producing a maximum power of 185 hp and a peak torque of 241 Nm. The 16-valve engine comes mated with an electronically controlled 6-Speed automatic transmission and features front-wheel drive.
Kia Sorento price in Australia starts at $48,990. The safety features of the vehicle include Dual front-advanced airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), 4-Wheel disc brakes, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) for better off-roading, Traction Control System (TCS), Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist System (BAS).
