Recent Updates of 2 Series Convertible
BMW’s compact sedan, the 2 Series is also available as a convertible. The 2 Series Convertible competes against the convertible versions of the Audi A3. It comes with a softtop that can be deployed or opened at speeds of up to 50 kmph. This adds a completely new dimension to what was already a stylish and sporty compact sedan. The rest of the car is much like the coupe it is based on. There are seven engines including 3 diesels, choice between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission, 4 trim levels including an M Sport variant and more options than you can throw a stick at. The engines vary from a 1.5L 3-cylinder petrol making 100 kW and 220 Nm to a 3L six-cylinder petrol making 250 kW and 500 Nm on the M240i. As usual, the nicer luxury and assistance features are optional extras but the standard iDrive enabled infotainment system is one of the best. Prices start from $62200

BMW 2 Series Convertible Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
The BMW 2 Series Convertible is thrown at almost a dying segment. However, despite being one of the oldest car types, convertible still manages to make a big impression in the market. BMW also makes convertibles that are stylishly crafted and powerfully configured. The BMW 2 Series Convertible, the close sibling of the coupe counterpart, gets everything that the German company has to offer, but without compromising on the styling. It goes up against similar cars in the segment, from the likes of Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

BMW 2 Series Convertible Interior & Features
The BMW 2 Series Convertible has an unmistaken presence for the interior. The base model gets Dakota leather upholstery with sun reflective technology. Dual-zone climate control is standard, and so is the sports steering wheel.
Get higher in the lineup to the 230i and you will get all of the M Sport Package as an option. There is an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system (6.5-inch for the 220i), which also gets 3D maps. The front row (driver and front passenger) gets heated seats for optimum comfort. The centre console and dashboard seem a little over-crowded with a lot of button bits. However, the sanity of the driver’s display brings down the cluttered look to a rather simplistic approach.
2 Series Convertible Exterior
The BMW 2 Series Convertible is a plush car on the aesthetics. It has sharp lines on the front bonnet and on the sides. It follows the latest styling trend of the company with two separate kidney grille. LED lights are given at all ends - front and rear.
The Convertible rides on 17-inch alloy wheels for the base model and 18-inch for the higher trims. This, of course, adds a lot of sporty touch to the riding dynamics. There are a lot of chrome additions on the front and the rear exhaust tip also gets the chrome addition.
BMW 2 Series Convertible Ride & Handling
The BMW 2 Series Convertible is a superb handler, especially with the extra weight at the rear and the rear-wheel-drive mechanism. It is super smooth out on the open roads but feels somewhat firm in the city with very little feedback from the steering and suspension. However, the throttle response is just amazing and the three models can hit the 0-100 km/h acceleration in 7.7 seconds, 5.9 seconds and 4.7 seconds respectively for the base to top model.
2 Series Convertible Engine & Fuel Consumption
The BMW 2 Series Coupe gets three different engine options, just like its coupe sibling. Though the displacement remains 2.0-litre, the configuration of the engines is different to ensure different power production and riding feel. The base 220i Luxury Line convertible makes the same maximum power of 135 kW, besides making peak torque of 270 Newton-Metres.
The higher 230i model churns out a maximum power of 185 kW, and a peak torque of 350 Nm. And finally, the range-topping and most sporty M240i has a 6-cylinder engine to churn out 250 kW of power and a whopping 500 Nm of torque. Yet, the transmission, just like the coupe, is handled by an 8-speed Sport automatic gearbox for all the trim levels.
BMW 2 Series Convertible Braking & Safety
Safety features for all the models in the BMW 2 Series Convertible line up are standard. There are vented disc brakes for all the wheels, while the assistance of an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, and braking assists are also given. Other assistance features include dynamic stability control, dynamic traction control, run-flat tyres, etc. Inside the cabin, there are airbags everywhere, including all for the front occupants.
2 Series Convertible Verdict
The BMW 2 Series Convertible is one of the best open-top models you will plying on the roads of Australia. It has all the elements to make it stylish and amazing, including a powerful engine and aesthetics to die for. However, the ride quality in a normal city seems to be a little on the firm side and could have been more responsive.
