Volkswagen Touareg base model launched in Australia, priced at $79,490
Volkswagen has added a new base model in the Touareg range six months after the Launch Edition was introduced. The Touareg 190TDI is powered by the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, while transmission duties are carried over by an eight-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels through a permanent all-wheel drivetrain.
Speaking more of Touareg specs, the turbo-diesel unit emanates 190 kW of peak power and 600 Nm of top torque. Priced competitively from $79,490, the 190TDI is the most affordable option in the new Touareg range. A higher-priced 190TDI Premium is also available that costs $85,490 on-roads.
The list of features on the 190TDI comprises large 19-inch alloy wheels, front heating seats, black Vienna leather seat covers, keyless entry, an electric tailgate, and a large 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and smartphone compatibility. It also packs a host of assistance features such as adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, side assist, and lane assist, and the all-speed autonomous emergency braking.
The only custom option available with the 190TDI is the Innovision Package, which costs $8000. It includes a dual-screen cockpit combining a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen with a 12.3-inch instrument binnacle. Also, a head-up display volume scroll wheel, gloss black interior detailing, and 30-colour ambient lighting can be availed with the custom pack.
Those opting for the higher 190TDI Premium pack can also benefit from the custom pack. Climbing up in the range, the top-spec variant (priced $6000 higher) adds a bunch of features over the base trim such as air suspension, dynamic-function matrix LED headlights, indicators, headlight washers, 20-inch alloy wheels, premium leather trim, massage function for the front seats, seat ventilation, etc.
Besides, there are two optional packages, Sound & Comfort and an R-Line, that cost $8000 each. Those wanting to add a panoramic sunroof on the 190TDI Premium will have to shell out $3000 extra. The all-wheel steering is exclusively available with the R-Line package; this feature is a Volkswagen first. It also includes an electromechanical active roll stabilization.
