2018 Renault Megane RS recalled, concern engine wiring

Renault recently issued a recall notice for the 2018 model-year Megane due to concerns over a wiring fault that could lead to engine failure. The company officials explained the defect as, "The oil pressure solenoid valve wiring was not manufactured to the required specifications, which may lead to engine failure”.

About the expected hazards, the firm stated that if the engine fails then the driver may feel the steering heavier, loss of auxiliaries and much effort would be needed for braking. That means it increases the risk of an accident and injury to the driver, other occupants of the vehicle and people on the road.

A VIN list of a total 580 units of Megane (sold from 1 September 2018 through 30 September 2019) is provided by the automaker which may get affected by the aforementioned defect.

The owners of the affected cars will get a written notification from Renault Australia requesting them to contact their nearest dealer and schedule an appointment for inspection and rectification of the engine wiring and checking of oil pressure check and get it fixed. Further, the original notice provided by the company can also be checked by the vehicle owners.

Renault Megane is powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, that holds the capability to produce 280 PS of power and 390 Nm of torque. The car is loaded with plenty of safety appointments which include auto emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, distance warning, ESC, ABS, hands-free parking, surround parking sensors, a rearview camera, and hill-start assist.

Inside the cabin, the Megane specs sheet incorporates an 8.7-inch multimedia system capable of displaying performance analytics, sports seats, perforated leather steering wheel and shifter, satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, and heated folding wing mirrors.
