Mitsubishi may offer seven-year warranty across the range soon

A few months back, Mitsubishi launched the updated 2020 Triton in Australia, with a change in warranty terms of the vehicle. The standard five years/unlimited kilometres scheme is now replaced with a seven-year/150,000km warranty.

Though it has been stated for the new Triton only, the company officials also have given the hint that the scheme will be permanently operating across the range soon.

Derek McIlroy, deputy director of Mitsubishi Australia stated at the time of launch that the firm was stepping ahead to seven-year warranty across the rest of the range but it was too early to make an announcement.

The Triton extended warranty scheme is extended till the end of the year and it is expected that the complete range will be getting the new warranty scheme from January 1, 2020.

From March 2019, the top 10 automakers of Australia are now offering five- or seven-year warranties, which have been significantly increased from three years after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission placed the industry on notice 18 months ago.

Mr. McIlroy also said, “We’ve probably come back to the pack in that regard. We have a lot of faith in our cars, so it’s something we think we can take advantage of when the time’s right.”

If we see the warrant timelines of the top 10 car brands of Australia, then we can find that:

  • Hyundai was first to offer a five-year warranty across the range in 1999
  • After this, Mitsubishi offered five-year coverage in December 2004
  • Kia, the sister brand of Hyundai, came up with permanent factory-backed seven-year warranty across the range in October 2014
  • Volkswagen, Mazda, Holden, and Ford offered five-year warranties in 2018
  • Subaru and Toyota adopted five-year warranty coverage in January 2019
  • And, Nissan moved to this in April 2019
