Holden posts the worst monthly sales since 1948
Holden was among the top-selling and favorite brands of Australia once, but now the monthly sales of the automaker have been recording the lowest levels since 1948.
The official figures show that the automaker sold just 2863 cars in September which is 38% less to the previous September and lowest in the history of 71 years. These sales figures have eliminated Holden from the list of top 10 selling car brands in Australia.
This is the first time when company sales fall below 3000 units. Before this, the recorded low figures were 3266 in July, 3483 in April and 3825 in February.
As it is observed that the complete industry is facing the biggest slowdown since the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 and 2009, so Holden is not the only one who has recorded low sales figures. Besides Holden, sales figures of other automakers are also falling as compared to the same month in the previous year:
- Toyota posted a 12.8 percent decline
- Hyundai recorded a drop of 10.7 percent
- Ford was down by 5.9 percent
- Honda was fell by 24.8 percent
- Volkswagen dropped by 18.7 percent
But few of the top 10 selling brands also recorded an increase in sales. It includes:
- Mazda sales increased by 15.5 percent
- Mitsubishi sales increased by 18 percent
- Kia posted an increase of 2.5 percent
The overall sales of a new car have seen a YTD decline of 7.9 percent and as compared to previous September, it decreased by 6.9 percent.
On the Holden sales slump, the company officials quoted, “It is a disappointing result and not where we want to be. A couple of factors contributed, including delays in delivering several batches of Colorados to the fleet and rental customers, and a significant sell-down of dealer demonstrator inventory as a result of our demonstrator clearance sale.”
