Ford launches special edition Ranger Sport in Australia

Ford Australia has supplemented Ranger Sport to its model line-up, placing it between the XLS and XLT 4x4 variants. It gets no mechanical changes whatsoever but presents an improvement in terms of practicality and aesthetics above the XLS. Ford has also said that it comes with an additional kit worth $ 6000 over the XLS, but it sells for only $ 3500 more than a standard XLS dual-cab.

Talking about the design, Ranger Sport’s exterior features a black treatment with black mirror caps, black front grille, matte black sports bar, black door handles, black rear bumper, and headliner as standard.

Even the 17-inch (XLS runs on 16-inch wheels) wheels also get the black treatment and there is also unique ‘Sport’ tailgate decal. The inside of the car flaunts dual-zone climate control, smart keyless entry, built-in sat nav, SYNC 3 with an 8-0-inch touchscreen, and push-button start. This car also comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

Moving on to the powertrain, the Ford Ranger Sport is equipped with Ford’s 3.2-litre engine. This engine is capable of churning out a maximum power of 197 hp and a peak torque of 470 Nm and can be mated to either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. In addition to that, it features up-to-date driver assistance technology such as pedestrian detection, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping aid, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams.

Users also get the option of choosing from five colors- Meteor Grey, Arctic White, Shadow Black, True Red, and Aluminium Metallic. Ford Ranger Sport is priced at $ 49,990 drive-away for the automatic and $ 47,790 drive-away for the manual. The brand has not revealed the production numbers yet, but it might be limited to around 600 units.
