BMW 1 Series clinches a five-star rating in ANCAP

Proving its safety prowess once again, the BMW 1 Series has grabbed a perfect five-star safety rating at the ANCAP crash testing. The entry-level German automobile was able to clinch on to perfect figures, thanks to the impressive side impact protection and active safety test results. The BMW 1 Series, however, was also criticised for limited whiplash protection of the front seats and a rather low rear adult occupant protection.

There were also some other models tested alongside the BMW 1 Series, including the Peugeot Partner and the Citroen C5 Aircross. The Peugeot Partner could only manage a four-star safety rating because of autonomous emergency braking system failed to recognise cyclists, and resulting in a low "vulnerable road user detection" score.

Moving on, the Citroen C5 Aircross could also score four-stars only since its autonomous emergency braking doesn't come with cyclist detection. Anyway, a 90% score in adult occupant protection made sure that the Citroen C5 Aircross is one safe vehicle and helped it attain a four-star rating.

BMW revealed the 1 Series' specs ad pricing not-so-long-ago in September, earlier this year. Available in 118i and M135i xDrive trim options, the German car gets a price that ranges from $ 42,990 to $ 63,990. Powering the 2020 BMW 1 Series 118i is a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol-fed motor pushing out 140 PS of power and 220 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as standard. There is also the M Sport Package that brings along a set of 18-inch M alloy wheels, ‘M' steering wheel, sports seats trimmed in cloth, "sensate" fake leather, and a black headliner.

Then comes the 2020 BMW 1 Series M135i xDrive that gets its power from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine churning out 305 PS of power and 450 Nm of torque. All four wheels get power via an adaptive M xDrive AWD system that works in tandem with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the 118i, the M135i xDrive gets larger 19-inch alloy wheels, M Sport Brakes, M Sport Steering, M Rear Spoiler, LED headlights with high-beam assist, keyless entry & start, and a 16-speaker surround-sound system.
