2020 Honda Civic Type R facelift makes its debut
Honda has introduced a facelifted Civic type R at the Tokyo Auto Salon. The updated offering by the automaker sports revised styling along with standard Honda Sensing safety features and updated technology.
With improved aerodynamics, Honda’s engineering team has developed a new set of rear bushings to improve the grip of the car on all terrains. The front suspension has been modified to reduce friction and provide more power to steering. The revised suspension of the vehicle includes updated dampers as well.
The other technical changes that improve the performance of this facelift is its newly developed two-piece brake rotors that are coupled to brake pads. This new feature is designed to reduce fade and give an additional boost towards braking at high speeds.
Additionally, the mega hatch also features an Active Sound Control system which modifies the interior sound as per the chosen drive mode. Inside the cabin, Civic Type R sports a new steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara leather along with a new gear shifter and a restyled knob that allows shorter shift throws.
The refreshed version is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre gasoline engine, similar to its predecessor. The VTEC engine generates a maximum power of 306 hp and peak torque of up to 400 Nm. The power is channeled to the front axle through a six-speed, close-ratio manual transmission system, and a limited-slip differential.
The car offers three selectable modes, namely Comfort, Sport, +R. The selected driving mode affects the change in throttle, steering response and firmness of the suspension. The Honda Sensing list of safety and driver assistance systems will be offered as standard with the facelift version. The Honda Sensing feature is being provided as standard equipment across the entire Civic lineup, exclusively for the 2020 model and trims.
Lastly, the car is said to hit the showrooms for sale in Japan soon. The automaker has not commented on the price of their latest offering.
