2020 Audi A5 and S5 revealed, expected arrival in Australia mid-2020
Audi has unveiled A5 and S5 models for the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show with updated technology features and revised looks. The move came from the company’s intention to bring the Coupe, Sportback, and Cabriolet in line with the company's latest models.
On the exterior, A5 incorporates Audi's Singleframe grille, new detailing on the bumper, and ventilation slits above the grille reminiscent of the 1984 Audi Sport Quattro. And, also a signature LED daytime-running light upfront. At the rear, it is provided with a revised LED tail-light signature to match the front, a new rear bumper with diffuser insert, and trapezoidal tailpipe finishers. The model offers a total 12 exterior finishes with a new distinct green metallic shade and the two optional exterior appearance lines are- advanced and S line.
Inside the cabin, major changes include the new MMI touch infotainment system which includes a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen display with acoustic feedback, a revised version of Audi's 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument binnacle, navigation MMI plus, DAB+ digital radio, and Audi smartphone interface (Apple CarPlay/Android Auto). Apart from these, it also has Audi phone box (wireless charging) and an optional Bang & Olufsen premium sound system.
"Audi connect and Audi connect plus comprise a multitude of online services, including online traffic sign and hazard information, on-street parking and the Car-to-X service traffic light information, which Audi launched in Ingolstadt this July. It connects the car to the city’s central computer that controls the traffic lights," the company says in its press kit.
The mechanical bits offer a choice of four- and six-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, comply with the latest Euro 6d-temp emissions regulations. Four of these will be equipped with mild-hybrid technology, and come up with an automatic transmission as standard, either a seven-speed S Tronic or eight-speed 'Tiptronic' with torque converter.
Audi S5 has also come up with 3.0 TDI and 3.0 TFSI versions depending on the market and also available in Coupe, Sportback, and Cabriolet body styles. TDI version is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel with mild-hybrid tech, producing 346 PS of power and 700 Nm of torque channelled to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
All variants of A5 and S5 are ready for official premiere at the Frankfurt motor show and is coming in the Europe market during the fall of 2019, with a starting price of $69,100 for the entry-level 40 TFSI Coupe with mild-hybrid tech. The Audi Australia is expected to have the models on board during the second quarter of 2020.
