Nissan GT-R Review 2024
Nissan Australia has given subtle updates to the 2020 GT-R range. The 50th Anniversary Edition, based on the Premium Luxury grade has also received changes including the 50th Anniversary Edition badges both inside out. Also specific to the Anniversary Edition are new liveries inspired by Japan GP series and three new colour schemes highlighted by vivid stripes. Minor styling tweaks such as a reworked front bumper, new lighter wheels, and blue titanium exhaust tips are common to the entire range. The Urban Grey interior colour scheme comes with the standard Premium Luxury variant, while the Recaro seats are exclusive to the Track Edition. The 3.8-litre V6 unit has been retained, though it gets new turbochargers that aid low-end response. Changes have also been made to the electronically controlled suspension set-up that improves the ride quality and cornering. With the aforementioned revisions, the 2020 Nissan GT-R price in Australia has changed upwardly over its pre-update version.

Nissan GT-R Interior & Features
The spacious cabin is spread across a long wheelbase measuring 2,780mm; the headroom and hip room are more comfortable at the front as compared to the rear. Legroom is a bit tight at the back, although the shoulder space is snug at both ends. Driver and co-passenger seats gain from the heated function which is missing in the rear. The carbon fibre finished centre cluster and aluminium pedals infuse a premium feel inside. Talking of upholstery, the front seats are covered with leather-accented material with synthetic suede inserts, while the hand-stitched semi-aniline leather-accented option is reserved for the Premium Luxury grade. The dual-tone red-black front seats come with Track-Edition, and the NISMO grade can be had with both mono-tone leather-accented and dual-tone seat covers. The comprehensive standard feature list comprises of a BOSE premium audio system with 11 speakers, BOSE active noise cancellation, steering mounted audio volume, speed-sensitive audio volume, two USB ports and Bluetooth streaming. Satellite navigation with 3D mapping and 8-inch integrated colour display with a multi-touch screen, voice recognition for audio and navigation, a rear view camera, intelligent key with push-button ignition and dual-zone climate control air-conditioner, etc. are some other comfort features that 2020 Nissan GT-R benefits from.
GT-R Exterior
Popularly known as ‘Godzilla’ in Australia, the 2020 Nissan GT-R remains largely the same in terms of styling. Likewise, there is no change in size as it retains the same length, width, and height (4,710mm, 1,895mm and 1,370mm respectively). The LED lighting kit with LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights and LED taillights are standard across the line-up. While the blue titanium exhaust with exhaust sound control is common across the range, the body-coloured rear spoiler is available only with the lower variants and the higher trims get a carbon finished unit. The Track Edition and Nismo variants sport wide front fenders and front protector and the carbon fibre bits can be seen around front/rear bumpers, side sills and rear spoiler in the NISMO trim.
Nissan GT-R Ride & Handling
Changes in chassis improve the functioning of the suspension system that further enhances steering response, brake pedal feel and ride quality.
GT-R Engine & Fuel Consumption
The 2020 Nissan GT-R specs remain unchanged with minor changes to the 3.8-litre unit which gains new turbocharges for an improved low-end response. The twin-turbocharged unit makes a massive 419kW at 6,800 rpm and 632Nm of torque between 3,600 to 5,600 rpm. Nissan uses a slightly powerful version of a slightly powerful twin-turbocharged version of the 3.8-litre V6 engine which generates 22kW additional power over the standard unit at 441kW and 30 Nm higher torque at 652 Nm. An AWD drivetrain with independent rear-mounted transaxle integrating gearbox, differential, and AWD transfer case ensures uninterrupted power supply in all four wheels. This system works in conjunction with a dual-clutch 6-speed transmission with three driver-selectable modes. It also packs some performance aiding features including traction control system, hill start assist, high performance 15 way rear mechanical LSD and an advanced vehicle dynamic control. As for the Nissan GT-R fuel consumption, it delivers 11.7l/100km, and the top speed is rated at 315km/h.
Nissan GT-R Braking & Safety
Nissan Brembo braking system consists of disc brakes at both ends with 390mm units fitted in front and rear equipping 380mm brakes. The disc units are standard across range save for the NISMO grade. While it misses out on the brake assist system, the electronic brakeforce distribution is standardized. The fully-packed NISMO grade benefits from 410mm front and 390mm rear Brembo carbon-ceramic rotors, while the rest of trims sport two-piece floating rotors with diamond-pattern internal ventilation. Nissan has armed the GT-R with dual front airbags, side-bags, roof-mounted SRS curtain airbags, front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and load limiters. Also, a 3-point emergency locking retractor is fitted in front and rear; it also gains child anchorage on rear seats. Zone body construction with front and rear crumple zones, Nissan Anti-theft system vehicle immobilizer, tyre pressure monitoring system and energy-absorbing steering column are all part of the standard kit.
GT-R Verdict
Having received subtle mechanical changes, the 2020 Nissan GT-R sees improvement on the low-end engine response that has ostensibly gone up by 5 per cent. Also, the updates made to the suspension set-up reflect in the performance with sharper steering response and improved ride quality. The GT-R is revered in the land down under and the latest iteration only gains with the new updates, though it could improve in terms of audio system and connectivity options. This beast from Nissan is an ideal vehicle choice if you are a performance person and can shed off a hefty amount to own it.
