Isuzu MU-X

Built on a 2845mm long wheelbase, the Isuzu MU-X interior features a three-row layout, accommodating seven adults in all. Save for the leather accented front & second-row seats and electrically adjustable driver’s seat, features such as a height adjuster for the driver's seat, 60:40 split 2nd-row seats with fold-away centre armrest, adjustable headrests for all rows and front bucket seats are common across the line-up. 

Aside from well-spaced rows with ample room for occupants, another highlight inside is the in-cabin storage capacity. Isuzu has integrated multiple storage points that can be accessed easily by the driver as well as passengers such as cup holders on the centre console provides convenient space to keep small bottles or cans while on the go. 

The glovebox gets a light which allows accessing it even at night without needing to use the front lamp. Keeping the focus on utility, Isuzu has provided power outlets in the glovebox and the rear cargo area as well. Besides, a dual-purpose driver and front passenger cup holder tray, rear passenger door cup holders, front door storage compartment with bottle bulge, etc. are some other storage areas within the cabin. 

The SUV has been packed thickly with comfort and connectivity bits, albeit Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are missing from the list. A 7-inch touchscreen unit for the base and a large 8-inch infotainment system is reserved for the top-spec variants. Bluetooth audio streaming, USB, iPod input, built-in satellite navigation, back seat USB charging port, roof-mounted 10-inch DVD entertainment monitor are also integrated inside.

Sporting a butch look, the Isuzu MU-X features a Bi-LED projector set-up at front with auto-levelling feature and LED daytime running lights. The radiator grille in front is finished in chrome and fog lamps are placed on the bumper. Providing convenience for easy ingress and egress are the aluminium steps at the side. While chrome finished outside door handles enhance MU-X’s visual appeal, the touch sensor and push-button locking (driver side), ensure the safety of the occupants. 

The side mirrors come integrated turn indicators in addition to power adjusting and folding functions. Other bits such as privacy glass at rear doors, quarter and tailgate windows, roof rails atop and tailgate spoiler with muffler cutter complete the styling on the outside. One must note, the features mentioned above vary based on the variant, some of these are missing in the entry-level trims, while the top-spec grades get all of it. 

As for Isuzu MU-X colour options, it is available in seven monotone shades including Cosmic Black mica, Silky White pearl, Havana Brown mica, Splash White, Magnetic Red mica, Titanium Silver metallic and Obsidian Grey mica. 

A coil suspension in front with gas-filled shock absorber and multi-link coil units at the back ensure offering a poised ride by absorbing adulations on the run. The steering wheel, an engine-speed-sensitive power-assisted unit is smooth to handle and makes manoeuvring within the city effortless. 

Isuzu MU-X specifications include a single 3.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine tuned to make 176 PS against 430 Nm torque. This DOHC, intercooled unit pairs with a six-speed ‘Rev-Tronic’ automatic gearbox with sequential sports mode. A 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrain options are available with the range. 

The stopping power is drawn by 300mm ventilated brakes at the front which works in conjunction with 318mm rear sold disc units at the back. The safety brigade is vast with active tech including six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, traction control, emergency brake assist, trailer sway control, hill start assist, hill descent control, reversing camera, etc. Additionally, there are ISOFIX mounts in the second row, automatic locking retractor, 3-point retractable seat belts for front seats, rear parking assist sensors, childproof rear door locks and several others. 

Despite its strong hold in the segment, Isuzu MU-X features some of the old-school bits such as a modern infotainment system compatible with advanced connectivity features and new-age safety features. Overall, it is a reliable SUV that offers good value for money.
