Hyundai Ioniq Electric Review 2024
The 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Electric is the all-electric version of Ioniq. Priced in the range of $49,259 to $54,084 (MLRP), it wouldn’t be wrong to say that Ioniq Electric is one of Australia’s most affordable EVs. Even though Hyundai Elantra small sedan outsizes Ioniq, it undercuts some of the popular EVs in terms of pricing including Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe hatchback. The Hyundai Ioniq range is available in five monotone exterior colours include Fiery Red, Intense Blue, Iron Grey, and Platinum Silver. Proportionally, the Hyundai Ioniq measures 4,470 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and 1,450 mm high. It is built on a 2,700 mm long wheelbase that transforms into a spacious cabin. The 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Electric is available in Electric Elite and Electric Premium variants.
Unlike its hybrid and plug-in-hybrid variants, it misses out on some of the features such as the satin chrome inserts on the grille and bi-xenon headlight on the outside. The projector type headlamps are restricted to the Electric Elite trim, while the Premium variant gets LED equipped units. LED daytime running lights as well as the automatic dusk sensing with escort and welcome functions are standard. The LED pack comprising indicator lights, positioning lights and tail-lamps are reserved for the top-spec Premium variant. Similarly, the courtesy lights, puddle lights and side repeaters, all feature LED units. Also specific to the Premium grade are the door frame & beltline moulding in satin chrome and matte grey side garnish insert.
The cabin, as mentioned above, is built on a long wheelbase, that indicates the generous headroom, legroom, should space and hip room for occupants seated in front and rear. Storage capacity for luggage is 350L with the rear seat in use, however, it can be expanded to 1,410 mm by folding the seats completely. Metallic white inserts around air-con vents, steering wheel and start button up the styling ante in the cabin. It also packs multiple storage points such as cup holders in centre console, front passenger seat back pocket, glovebox compartment, ticket holders, cup-holders integrated in rear armrest, etc. Both the variants sport leather-appointed steering wheel, while the leather seat covers are offered only with the top-spec trim. Single-Zone climate control with auto defog function, heated rear windshield, smart key remote, central locking, etc. are standard. It also gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Infinity premium audio system with 8 speakers with the amplifier is also a part of the kit.
The electric set-up on the 2019 Hyundai Ioniq consists of a 28 kWh, 360V Lithium-ion polymer electric motor which works with an electric motor putting out 88 kW along with 295 Nm torque. Braking power on the electric vehicle comes from disc units at both ends. The list of safety tech is quite long with prominent bits such as an anti-lock braking system with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution. It also packs hill-start assist control, vehicle stability management, Hyundai SamrtSense including blind-spot collision warning, driver attention warning, forward collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic collision warning and smart cruise control with stop and go. Multiple airbags, ISOFIX child restraint anchors, impact sensing auto door unlock are also part of the standard safety pack.
