Hyundai Elantra Review 2024
Hyundai Australia introduced new variants to Elantra’s line-up towards the end of December 2019. The classic sedan from Hyundai is currently available in four versions including two core versions (Go and Active) and two performance grades (Sport and Sport Premium). Some new features have also been added as part of the 2019 model year update. The price range for the 2019 Hyundai Elantra starts from $21,490 for the Go MT, as opposed to the AT version which is available at $23,790. Active trim in the range is offered only with an auto box at a price point of $25,990 and the Sport MT at $28,990, slightly less than its automatic counterpart at $31,490. Sitting at the top of the range is the Sport Premium MT at $31,490, its automatic version is priced slightly higher at $33,990 (all OTR prices). Customers can also avail the Smart Sense optional package available only with the automatic variants.
Besides receiving new variants in the line-up, it also gets a refresh on the outside. The new sporty cascading grille in front is the high point of the model that features honeycomb mesh and minimal chrome surround with Hyundai’s logo placed in the centre. Also to be noticed are the newly designed headlamps with integrated daytime running lights, vertically stacked triangular fog lamps and side skirts at the bottom. Sides are marked by prominent creases, and meaty multi-spoke 18-inch alloys specific to the Sport and Sport Premium trims. Rear has been styled equally fashionably as the front, featuring wrap-around tail-lamps, redesigned boot lid, and an integrated spoiler. Only the top-spec variants in the line-up get the LED-equipped tail-lamps.
Inside the cabin, the 2019 Hyundai Elantra can accommodate five adults with ease. There is generous headroom, legroom, should space and hip room both at the front and rear. Storage space with rear seats up stands at 458-litre, which can be further expanded by folding the rear seats. There are a bunch of utility spaces within the cabin for storage as it gets cup holders on the centre console, front passenger back seat pocket, glovebox compartment, integrated cup holders on the armrest, coat hooks, etc. Save for the Go and Active trims, the rest are layered with leather-appointed seat covers and door trim inserts. Power windows, glass sunroof, one-touch window down & up, 10-way power adjusting driver’s seat, etc. are available depending on the variant one picks. An 8-inch touchscreen unit comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite navigation, etc.
Engine options include a 2.0-litre petrol unit with 112kW power at 6000 rpm against 192 Nm torque at 4,700 rpm and a 1.6-litre, turbocharged diesel engine good for 150kW at 6000 rpm and 265 Nm torque between 1500 to 4,500 rpm. Transmission options include a six-speed MT, six-speed AT and a 7-speed DCT gearbox.
The sedan comes with a host of safety features such as ABS with BA and EBD, hill-start assist control, traction control, vehicle stability management, and Hyundai Smart Sense. The rearview camera, parking distance warning at the front/rear, smart cruise control can be availed based on variants.
