BMW 4 Series Convertible Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
Convertible cars have always been one of the most stylish ones you would see plying on the road. And this seems to be a big factor behind almost all premium luxury car makers focusing on a convertible body type for all their popular coupes and sedans. The BMW 4 Series Convertible is no different to the equation.
More than half a decade ago, BMW named its 3 Series Convertible as the 4 Series to make it more distinguishable than the coupe and sedan bodies. And guess what, the drop-top model did turn out to be one of the most successful models in the company’s shed.

BMW 4 Series Convertible Interior & Features
The cabin of the BMW 4 Series Convertible is simple, yet attractive. The wood trims on the dashboard and pop-up type display add a lot of charm to the console. The seats are done in Dakota leather upholstery with sun reflection to maintain comfort. Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard. The front seats heating feature while the driver’s seat gets memory function too.
The 3-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in Nora leather cover and feels good on the touch. The 8.8-inch touchscreen display gets iDrive touch controller, satellite navigation and voice commands.
4 Series Convertible Exterior
The BMW 4 Series Convertible has a striking exterior presence. It gets all the typical BMW traits with the ultimate sleekness and the bold character lines. It gets LED treatment at all parts of the illumination, be it from the headlamps, tail lights or the fog lamps at both ends. The exterior mirror gets the heating feature to ensure absolute clarity. The roof is a hard-top instead of a soft one and adds extra weight.
The open-top car rides on 19-inch light-alloy wheels as standard. However, the M Sport package adds a new alloy wheel design for the buyers. The rear gets dual exhaust pipes with chrome finish.
BMW 4 Series Convertible Ride & Handling
When it comes to handling, the BMW 4 Series Convertible has an uncompromised prowess. It has very responsive steering and delivers great feedback to the driver on the road conditions, speed, and maneuvering.
The big wheels tend to add a lot of stability at high speeds. However, there is still some bit of wobble over the triple-digit speed figure, especially with the hard-top down. Yet, the suspension tends to take up a lot of uneasiness and shakiness away and tries best to not transfer the same to the driver and the occupants. Even the base model can hit the 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 8.4 seconds, which proves how high torque deliver even at lower RPMs.
4 Series Convertible Engine & Fuel Consumption
The BMW 4 Series Convertible comes in two tunes of 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol and one 3.0-litre 6-cylinder petrol engines. The base 420i model is capable of churning out a maximum power of 135 kW, along with a peak torque of 270 Nm. The bigger 430i makes a high powerful output of 185 kW and a peak torque of 350 Nm.
The top-of-the-line 440i M Sport model has the 2,998cc engine that is capable of thumping out 240 kW of power and 450 Nm of maximum torque. As for the transmission, there is an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
BMW 4 Series Convertible Braking & Safety
The 19-inch alloy wheels of the BMW 4 Series Convertible are given inner vented disc brakes, along with the presence of an anti-lock braking system, cornering brake control and braking assistance. The car even gets the dynamic stability control and dynamic traction control for high speed and acceleration stability.
There are airbags everywhere inside the cabin, be it for the front, sides, and head. The cruise control gets braking assistance too for enhanced performance. Lane change warning, approach control, lane departure warning, pedestrian warning, etc., are all given as the driver’s assistance.
4 Series Convertible Verdict
The BMW 4 Series Convertible is one of the best hard open-top cars in the Australian market, especially at the given price tag. It competes against the likes of the Audis and Mercs. Hence, when it comes to convertibles, there is just nothing to worry about for this new 4 Series.
