New Toyota Ultra-Compact BEV revealed, launch in late 2020
Toyota is all set to showcase its new Ultra-Compact BEV at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. But before that, the firm unveils the glimpses of a production-ready electric vehicle. The yet-unnamed two-seater model is designed with a vision to run short-distances with limited impact on the environment.
The vehicle got the tag of Ultra-Compact EV due to its dimensions which can be read as 2490 mm long, 1290 mm wide, and 1550 mm tall. It is 205 mm shorter and 373 mm narrower than the ongoing Smart ForTwo EQ in Europe.
The automaker has not made any announcement regarding the size of the battery pack, but as per the reliable sources, it is known that the stored energy will last for about 100 kilometres. The charming little box offers an extremely short turning radius and a top speed of 60 kmph which is quite good to run in a congested city. Using a standard 200V plug, it will be charged in five hours.
Besides this, Toyota is also planning to come up with one-seater Ultra-Compact BEV and some other EVs also at the Tokyo show. About the dimensions of the one-seater model, it is known that it will be the same as a two-seater, which means spacious inside and out.
In addition to this, three "walking area BEVs" will also be showcased. Out of three, one will be identical to a standing scooter, another will be its seated version and the last will be a wheelchair version, designed to cater the special people.
All BEVs will have replaceable batteries with a capacity to run 10-20 kms in a single recharge. The charging time is mentioned as 2-2.5 hours.
If we see the market availability of the unique Ultra-Compact BEV, it is expected to go on sale from last 2020 in Japan. For more such insights, stay tuned to Zigwheels Australia.
