More powerful Toyota Supra confirmed for later this year, to get revised suspension

Prospective buyers of the Toyota Supra are in for a treat in Australia. The road-focused sports car is set to get a boost in power and a revised suspension to make it sportier than what the current model poses to be.

As confirmed by Toyota Australia, the updated Supra will make its way to the market by the end of 2020. It will continue to use the same in-line 6-cylinder engine that is sourced from BMW. However, the power production will jump up from 335 hp to 382 hp, a sharp bump by 47 hp. That said, the peak torque will remain the same at 500 Nm.

Apart from just that, the suspension will get a few upgrades with an under-skin stiffening. This will ensure that the beast is capable of offering a more track-focused performance. However, the pricing of the car has not been revealed yet, though it would be more than the top-of-the-line variant in the present lineup.

The present Toyota Supra is offered in two trim levels - GT and GTS. The lower trim is sold at $84,900 while the GTS goes for $94,900. The company has managed to sell 345 units of the car as January this year.

The present Supra GT rides on 18-inch wheels, while bigger 19-inch units do the duty on the GTS. The suspension is handled by double-joint MacPherson Strut at the front and Multi-like at the rear. The upcoming sportier model might be getting the same setup but would be tuned to offer more stability and to handle the extra power well. As for the braking, we can expect the same 348 mm fixed 4-caliper ventilated discs for the front wheels and 330 mm floating single-caliper ventilated discs for the rear.

Though the automaker is allocating an extra batch of cars to be sold via dealerships, they will not have the updated engine as of now. If you are looking to buy the more powerful Supra, you will have to wait till it is available for sale by the end of 2020.
