Mercedes-Benz G-Class EV announced by Daimler
The iconic SUV, Mercedes-Benz G-Class, is well known for its off-roading potential in the market. And now be ready to get hands-on its electric version. Last week, the head of digital transformation at Daimler, Sascha Pallenberg, stated that a battery-powered version of the Mercedes-Benz iconic off-roader is coming on social media soon.
Pallenberg also quoted Daimler CEO Ola Kallenius, who said: “there will be a zero-emission #EV version of the #MercedesBenz G-Class”. He further added, “In the past, there were discussions whether we should eliminate the model, the way I see things now I’d say the last Mercedes to be built will be a G-Class.”
Though nothing has been confirmed about the form and design of the vehicle yet, it may have some similarities with Mercedes-Benz’s existing EQC SUV. The first all-electric crossover of the brand is powered by an 80 kWh lithium-ion battery and two electric motors producing 408 PS of power and 760 Nm of torque.
If we talk about the engine specs of ongoing Mercedes Benz G-Class trims, then we find that G500 is powered by a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 unit delivering 421 PS of power and 610 Nm of torque whereas G400d engine features inline-six cylinders which produce 330 PS of power and 700 Nm of torque.
Besides G-Class electric SUV, Ford is also coming up with the electric version of its F-150, and Tesla is working to roll out an electric pickup soon. Not only this, brands like Rivian are also in the pipeline to build a new version of the off-road-ready ute.
This is a matter of delight that legendary off-roader has a future in the EV era. So, stay tuned to Zigwheels Australia to get exciting updates about the looks, appearance, specs, and price of the upcoming electric G-Class.
