Mazda CX-30, Ford Explorer, Mercedes-Benz GLB score five-star ratings in Euro NCAP

The European car safety performance assessment programme has recently awarded ratings to four new car models. It includes Mazda CX-30, Ford Explorer PHEV, Mercedes-Benz GLB, and Opel/Vauxhall Corsa.

If we talk about the Mazda crossover specifically, it rocked the show by earning almost perfect 99% score in the Adult Occupant Protection category. The highest score was awarded against the NCAP 2018-19 protocol. Not only this, but the vehicle performed outstandingly in other categories also by scoring:

• 86% in Child Occupant Protection
• 80% in Vulnerable Road Users
• 77% in Safety Assist

Michiel van Ratingen, secretary-general of Euro NCAP said, "Congratulations to Mazda for another almost-perfect score in adult occupant safety. There are still several cars to be rated in 2019 but it is unlikely we will see better for this part of the assessment.”

Come to the Mercedes-Benz GLB which also received a 5-star rating in the safety test. The compact SUV by the German automaker is just behind CX-30, earned 92% in Adult Occupant Protection, 88% in Child Occupant Protection, 78% in Vulnerable Road Users, and 74% in Safety Assist segments.

The plug-in hybrid Ford Explorer also achieved a five-star rating. It scored 87% in Adult Occupant Protection, 86% in Child Occupant Protection, 61% in Vulnerable Road Users, and 76% in Safety Assist categories.

For these two models, Ratingen quoted, “Congratulations to Ford and Mercedes-Benz for their five-star ratings, too. Euro NCAP is now gearing up for new tests in 2020 but we’re confident that manufacturers will continue to deliver the highest levels of safety to their customers.”

Now the last model in the list which earned a four-star rating is new Opel/Vauxhall Corsa. NCAP stated that the model missed the top rating by just 1% in the Safety Assist category. As per the rating card, the model grabbed the 'Adequate' ratings in the Lane Support and AEB Inter-Urban tests. And to talk about categories, it scored 84% in Adult Occupant Protection, 86% in Child Occupant Protection, 66% in Vulnerable Road Users and 69% in Safety Assist assessments.
