Jeep prepares to electrify all of its models by 2022
"Electric is the future" is a phrase that we have been listening to for quite some time now, right? With the passage of time, the future has now started to become the present as we continue to realise the dream of having fully-electric cars with alluring appearance, long single-charge range, and pretty much everything that a conventional ICE car possesses.
With most automobile manufacturers now offering hybrid and even all-electric variants of their offerings, Jeep has also started preparing to offer a lineup with hybrid or electric model each of its vehicles.
As a result pf the electrified portfolio, Jeep is looking forward to becoming "the greenest SUV brand in the world" by the year 2022. Jeep global president Christian Meunier addressed the press at the 2020 Jeep Gladiator's launch in New Zealand. Speaking of the Australian launch, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator will make its way to down under by the first half of 2020. Once launched over here in Australia, the Gladiator will take the tally of Jeep vehicles offered in the country to five - Compass, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, and Gladiator.
Not only the electrification of its whole lineup will make Jeep vehicles more fuel-efficient but also make them greener than ever before. "We were a niche brand, a very strong brand, but we believe these Jeeps will be the best Jeeps ever. In 2009, we sold 300,000 units, so really a niche brand, and that has increased to 1.5 million today. We are extremely successful in North America, and Brazil and Argentina, where six years ago the brand didn't exist, so it's remarkable what's been accomplished to have 20 percent of the market", said Meunier.
The last decade has been great for the American automaker as it was able to taste much success around the globe. And, with the introduction of electrified models, the brand aims at becoming a "more sustainable, iconic brand, not only an off-road brand". Moreover, Jeep also believes that the electric transformation will help the brand in accumulating higher sales figures. "Expand the capability off-road into more of on-road capability, all-weather capability, and fully sustainable and I think that's why when I said we want to become the greenest SUV brand in the world, we mean it and that is what the company is going to deliver. We have exciting plans to invigorate the brand, which we will reveal to you in the next few months. We're working on a significant plan, and 2020 will be a big year for us", said Jeep Australia's new managing director, Kevin Flynn.
