2020 Volkswagen Passat pricing revealed

The new Volkswagen Passat has finally hit the showroom in Australia. The facelifted mid-size sedan gets a new variant and latest technology features. 2020 Volkswagen Passat price starts from $45,990.

The model has marked its presence in the market ever since 1973. The current generation of the car is the eighth generation of the vehicle. Available as sedan or wagon in a solitary 140TSI Business grade, a significant change with the 2020 Volkswagen Passat is that it replaces its traditional 132TSI engine. The 1.8-litre turbo petrol engine, generating a maximum output of 188 hp has been replaced by a new 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit offering maximum power of 188 hp and producing a peak torque of up to 320 Nm.

Power is sent to the vehicle through its front-wheel-drive, and a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission handles the transmission of the engine. The new petrol engine’s arrival marks Volkswagen’s phase-out from the diesel powertrains in its regular Passat line-up.

The standard set of equipment over the 140TSI Business includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, redesigned tail-lamp internals and new-look bumpers at both ends of the exterior.

Inside, the standard interior features include power-adjustable front seats with memory settings, and three-zone climate control air-conditioning amongst others. Interestingly, Passat makes itself the first Volkswagen to launch with wireless Apple CarPlay as standard.

The Passat facelift also gets new safety equipment. The car comes with a new Travel Assist program, that adjusts the speed of the vehicle automatically by combining adaptive cruise control, active lane-keeping assistance and speed sign recognition. The other safety feature includes autonomous emergency braking (AEB), semi-autonomous parking, blind-spot monitoring, and driver fatigue detection.

Lastly, with the new engine and added technology to the car, the new model starts from $45,990 for the sedan and $47,990 for the wagon before calculating the on-road costs.
