2020 Skoda Superb facelift launch delayed in Australia

A few months back, Skoda unveiled its all-new facelifted Skoda Superb. The new plug-in hybrid iV and soft-roader models are included in the updated Superb range which incorporates more technology and subtle styling changes.

But the models which were about to hit the market in the third quarter of the year are now been delayed because of production shuffling caused by WLTP emissions regulations in Europe. And no official launch date is announced by the automaker.

Paul Pottinger, general manager for corporate communications at Volkswagen Group Australia, stated that “WLTP has pushed back Australia’s start of production for the mid-life facelift. We’ll convey arrival dates when we can. There’s plenty of current stock available."

On the exterior, the 2020 Skoda Superb features

  • LED headlights
  • Styled bumpers
  • Narrower LED headlights
  • Full LED tail-lights
  • Skoda lettering at the back
  • A deeper grille
  • Newly designed 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels

Also, Crystal Black and Race Blue colors are added to the palette of the vehicle and double slat bars are also added to some models.

The top of the line Superb specs-sheet include

  • A customizable digital instrumentation display
  • A 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment and navigation system with gesture and voice control
  • Predictive cruise control
  • A Canton sound system and Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Emergency Assist is added for the first time in any Skoda car, that automatically steers the car safely to the roadside in the case of an emergency.

On the power bits, the new Superb includes Superb iV plug-in hybrid and it will be the first PHEV by the automaker. The vehicle is backed with the Volkswagen Passat GTE's powertrain, including 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 156 PS power, electric motor delivering 115 PS and a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The complete power generation stands at 217 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque.

Moreover, the announcement was followed by the same delay statement of Volkswagen Passat, which was about to come in entry-level 140TSI guise before the end of this year.
