2020 Skoda Octavia unveiled globally, Australian launch in 2021

Putting an end to all the rumors and speculations, the Czech automaker Skoda took the wraps off its next-gen Octavia. The new version features a new design, latest tech appointments, and a wide range of powertrain choices. Let’s have a look at the 2020 Octavia specs.

The new Octavia is longer as well as wider than before. The liftback model is 19 mm longer and the wagon is extended by 22 mm. In terms of width, both the versions are stretched by 15 mm. Though the wheelbase measurement is the same as earlier. The bigger exterior results in a bigger cabin. The trunk space of the wagon model is increased by 30 litres and stands at 640 litres now whereas liftback boot measures as 600 litres which means 10 litres more space. The 2-spoke steering wheel seems inspired by the pre-facelifted Mercedes S-Class.

If we talk about the changes done to the Octavia cabin, we see a completely fresh look with no resemblance to the existing model. It includes

  • Huge 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system containing shortcut buttons
  • Updated digital virtual cockpit to display all car-related information
  • Five USB-C ports
  • Head-up display
  • 3-zone climate control
  • Predictive cruise control, predictive pedestrian and cyclist protection
  • Smartphone-sized pockets on the back of the seats
  • Sunshades on the rear windows and in-door umbrellas

Moving to the drivetrain, the brand offers various engine choices which include petrol, diesel, compressed natural gas, plug-in, and mild hybrid. Their mechanical numbers are:

  • 1.0 litre petrol engine produces 110 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque
  • 2.0-litre petrol engine churns out 190 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque
  • 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engines with outputs ranging from 115 PS and 250 Nm to 200 PS and 400 Nm
  • 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild hybrid technology
  • 1.4-litre petrol engine with plug-in hybrid delivers a combined output of 204 PS and 350 Nm

The model has been revealed internationally but it is expected that Australian buyers have to wait for a year to get their hands on the new Octavia.
