2020 Audi A1 gets 5-star in ANCAP rating

Australasia's leading independent vehicle safety advocate ANCAP has recently awarded five-star safety rating to the new Audi A1. After clearing strict 2019 criteria, the model becomes the first light car to touch the highest grade. The five-star safety rating applies to all the variants of A1 in Australia as well as New Zealand.

To provide ratings, ANCAP takes into account the level of occupant and pedestrian protection provided by the new cars and conducts physical crash tests and assess collision avoidance technologies.

Earlier this year, the next-gen A1 earned the following amazing scores in the tests conducted by its sister-concern firm Euro NCAP:

• In the Adult Occupant Protection category: 95 percent
• In Child Occupant Protection: 88 percent 
• In Vulnerable Road User Protection category: 73 percent 
• In Safety Assist: 82 percent 

James Goodwin, CEO of ANCAP said, "It is encouraging to see vehicle brands prioritise collision avoidance capabilities across their model line-ups, including the smaller city cars which mix regularly with pedestrians and cyclists in addition to other vehicles.”

He also added, "This is an impressive score for a vehicle in the Light Car category."

If we talk about the Audi A1 engine specs, it is powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine and churns out 115 PS of power at 5000 to 5500 rpm and 200 Nm of peak torque at 2000 to 3000 rpm. Audi claims the fuel efficiency of 18.5 kmpl and 0-100 kmph run in 9.4 seconds, while top speed is mentioned at 203 kmph. Power is sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed S Tronic dual-clutch automatic as standard, Speaking about the Audi A1 price, it starts from $32,350 plus on-road costs.
