Lexus recalled 2019 CT200h, concern boot door gas struts

Lexus recently issued a safety recall notice for the 2019 model-year CT200h line over the concern of leaking the boot door gas struts which keeps the door open. The company officials explained the defect as, "The subject vehicles are equipped with gas charged back door damper stays which are used to help lift and support the back door while it is in the open position. During a specific production period, an improper temperature was used during the plating process for coating the surface of the damper rod at a specific supplier."

A VIN list of five units (manufactured between 13 February 2019 and 22 February 2019) is provided by the firm. And about the expected outcome, it stated that if the malfunctionality happens in the plating process, then internal stress can be generated which in turn leads to causing the micro-cracks on the plating of the damper rod.

This situation will further result in leaking of the charged gas through cracks when the rod is in a mounting position, the damper oil moves down and away from the damper rod seal. If a significant amount of gas leaks, then damper may not keep the door open and the chances of accident or injury increase at the time of using the back door.
