Mitsubishi Triton Review 2024
There is more to the updated Mitsubishi Triton than just a new look. The brand has improved safety features, comfort, and convenience across the board, but the sad news is that prices are up. Can the updated Triton justify its extra expenditure? Let us find it out.
Taking a closer look at the design, this new facelift version is the best facelift that Mitsubishi has ever done. It gets a new dynamic shield design language, which makes it look more masculine and more aggressive. It also features new headlights, grille and a chunky bumper. There’s even a nudge bar, which enhances the front look of this beast. The ground clearance has been improved that makes it better while off-roading. Also, the rear-end has been redesigned, and there are less rounded edges look that you would expect from a Triton. It seems sturdy and remains pretty good in terms of payload capacity up to 956 Kg of load capacity for dual cab pickups. The towing capacity of this monster is up to 3.1 tons, whereas the class leaders can tow up to 3.5.
Getting inside the car, the changes may not feel massive, but there have been some thoughtful editions. There is a phone holder in front of the gearshift. Then it gets soft materials present in the covered storage, doors and knee pads. The knee pads prevent you from bashing your leg while off-roading. The high-spec versions come with 7 inches touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, digital radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. In the lower grade model, there is a smaller media screen without smartphone connectivity, which is a bit of a disappointment, and no model comes with satellite navigations. In front of the driver, there is a new info cluster display but no digital speedometer. Generally, the appearance and feel of the cabin are improved. The rear seats of the Triton provide generous space for adults.
Powering this monster is a 2.4L MIVEC turbo diesel engine. Peak power of 178 hp kicks in at 3500 rpm, while the 430 Nm of torque comes in at 2500 rpm. The engine has not changed as it produces the same amount of power and torque as before. But there is a new six-speed automatic transmission, which makes it a little bit usable. It does not feel as stressed at higher speeds on the open road. Different gear ratio makes it quicker from a standstill. If you want to take thins on your hands, then you can opt for the higher trim, which features paddle shifters.
Safety grades in the top-spec model are exceptional, and the lower spec models are pretty well equipped, but they miss out on some of the active safety gears. Features like ultrasonic misacceleration mitigation system, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning reverse parking sensors, multi around monitor, trailer stability assist etc. make this car extremely trustworthy.
