BMW X2 Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
The Australian market is crazier over SUVs than any other segment. Hence, the BMW X2 is a boon here and has been performing extremely well here, so much that the company has been very regular with bringing up newer and more attractive facelifts and upgrades now and then.
The BMW X2 does not compromise on the design or the performance, thanks to the true BMW essence. In fact, for the 2019 model, the German company has taken a big leap to get the design sorted into something new. And needless to say, the performance is on the superior side.

BMW X2 Interior & Features
Though the cabin feels a little dated, the dashboard is something to die for. The pop-up type display on the dashboard and the centre console seems to be cleanly stacked. The base model gets air-conditioning, while the higher trims get dual-zone automatic climate control. A 10.25-inch display sits for the navigation system, along with the presence of touchscreen functionality, iDrive controller, etc.
The seats in the base model are done in Sensatec upholstery that is decent. However, once you opt for an additional package of higher trim, you will get a Dakota leather upholstery that has a perforation.
X2 Exterior
The BMW X2 has a very attractive design right from the onset. The front panel is designed in a wonderful way, and so is the rear. It rides on 19-inch alloy wheels that have thick and grippy tyres for ultimate traction. The front panel has a newly designed kidney grille and has LED lights with cornering lamps as well. The front has fog lamps, that too in LED. The split tail light has an LED treatment on them too.
That said, for the M Package, the company offers a lot of additional features, like M Light alloy wheels and M Rear spoiler. There are two exhaust sections at the two sides of the rear and are done in high-gloss chrome.
BMW X2 Ride & Handling
The BMW X2 is built with a good bit of aerodynamics and has a light platform as well. And needless to say, the M Light package enhances the performance further. It is super smooth to drive in the city, thanks to the great suspension and responsive steering. However, when it comes to taking it out on the highway, the ride quality feels a little rough at high speeds. However, the wheels remain planted at all times.
X2 Engine & Fuel Consumption
The BMW X2 is offered in four different trim levels, one of them being diesel. The base model is sDrive 18i, which gets a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder engine and can churn out a maximum power of 103 kW, along with a peak torque of 220 Nm. The other model in the range is the sDrive 20i, which gets a bigger 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine that makes a better 141 kW of power and 280 Nm of torque.
The 20d variant uses a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine and can produce 140 kW of power and a massive 400 Nm of torque. And lastly, the top-of-the-line M35i incorporates the same 2.0-litre, 4-pot motor but makes a better 225 kW of power and 450 Nm of torque.
As for the transmission, the two lower models get a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic stick while the two top models get an 8-speed sports automatic gearbox.
BMW X2 Braking & Safety
The braking and safety standards are met pretty well on the BMW X2. It has airbags everywhere inside the cabin, including front, sides and head. Braking is handled by inner vented disc brakes that get enhancements in the form of an anti-lock braking system, braking assistant, and cornering brake control.
There are many driver’s assistance functions attached too, which include cruise control, dynamic stability control, and dynamic stability control. Park distance control, parking assistance and front collision alert are offered as standard.
X2 Verdict
The BMW X2 is the best model to go for if you are looking to step into the luxury car segment. Being an SUV, it woos everyone with its design and thumpy engine. And needless to say, it competes well against the other competitors, that is, entry-level models from Audi and Mercedes-Benz, two of its arch-nemesis.
