BMW M2 Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
A favoured name for producing sports sedan, BMW has been keeping a piece of huge news under wraps for months. However, the information got leaked past month and only after official confirmation BMW revealed that they are introducing their boldest BMW M2 Competition in Australia!
The countdown has already started and BMW Australia has given the date – mid-2020. Aussies are welcoming this news with gusto as they haven’t been disappointed with the previous model. A tough guy of full strength, this Bavarian coupe has nailed the performance and perfectly synced with the requirements of BMW lovers.

BMW M2 Interior & Features
There are a number of goodies that M2 has in offering to legit buyers. The current model has a red start/stop button installed on the steering wheel for an easy start and stop. Added to this, the standard seats are upgraded to M Sport seats that have M logos inscribed on the headrests. On unlocking the car, the logos illuminate, which is quite impressive.
Considering the other comfort areas and features, M2 offers an automatic climate control facility. In case the driver wishes to manually control the internal climate, items like air conditioner and the heater is also pre-installed in this car.
The seats are height adjustable but only for drivers. Focusing on the other standard features, some of the prominent ones include voice control, integrated 2DIN audio, front and rear speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, leather steering wheel, centrally mounted fuel tank, and more.
M2 Exterior
M2 Competition has by far succeeded in producing a car that excels in looks. A head-turning appearance with a 7-speed automatic feature, this car knows how to draw attention. It is available in 4 metallic colours - Long Beach Blue, Sunset Orange, Hockenheim Silver, and Black Sapphire.
This BMW model is equipped with adjustable headlights and an impressive switchable exhaust system with four black chrome tailpipes. M2 offers power-adjustable exterior rear-view mirrors, integrated antenna, and mirror turn indicators.
BMW M2 Ride & Handling
M2 is no doubt a user-friendly beast. However, it is a bit tardy in the handling department. Even though the front end is not up to the mark, the damper/ spring, steering, and the new strut brace is actually a precision bomber.
With an adjustable steering column, turning-in the car is crisper than other M series models. Included to the above, two buttons (M1 and M2) are pre-programmed with M Dynamic Mode for less electronic intervention and Sport + settings and Sport for sports drive mode.
M2 Engine & Fuel Consumption
One of the best things that BMW M2 did with this model was curbing the extra engine weight. Its engine offers a 6-speed manual gearbox, featuring a carbon fibre friction lining for weight reduction. Added to it, this car also has wet-sump lubrication that promises reduced ‘sloshing.’
M2 possess similar engine configuration as that of M3 and M4 models, with 3.0-liter fuel capacity (exactly 2977cc). The fuel system has a 6-cylinder twin-turbo petrol engine with DOHC valve configuration.
Competition is recognized as one of the first cars to achieve more by tightening emissions regulations. Due to such changes, the maximum power of M2 has risen considerably i.e., from 30 kW to 302 kW (40 PS to 410 PS). In fact, the maximum torque has also risen to 550 Nm from a mere 85 Nm.
Simply put, the good news is that the current M2 can sprint from 0-100kmph within 4.2 seconds. Even though this model revs to 7000 rpm, the expected throttle is not as sharp as it should be.
BMW M2 Braking & Safety
BMW M2 has the required safety features that sit fit with this big car. The braking feature is handled by disc brakes (both on the front and rear end).
Pinpointing at the safety aspects, Competition assists drivers with features like Crash Sensor, Parking Sensors, Vehicle Stability Control System, Anti-Lock Braking System, Child Safety Locks, and more.
M2 Verdict
Aptly stating, the BMW M2 Competition is really giving tough competition to other cars of this range. The radiators have gotten bigger so as the air intakes in the front bumper and new oil coolers, giving this car a minimum of 20% higher cooling power. With so many eye-catchy features, this car definitely stands in the top 5 fantasy cars that people would love to acquire and drive on Australian roads.
