Skoda confirms Kodiaq RS for Australia; 176 kW/500 Nm

After hustle and tussle with the Australian climate, Skoda is all set to introduce the Kodiaq RS into the country. Skoda Australia has confirmed that the hot Kodiaq RS will hit the country’s showroom soon and speculations are being made that it may arrive around by the end of this year.

To recall from memory, the car is the fastest seven-seat SUV to scale the tracks of Germany’s Nurburgring. Last year, Sabine Schmitz, a german racer and Nurburgring 24-hour winner, steered the coaster and lapped the circuit in just 9 minutes and 29.84 seconds. This ended up in the setting of a new record for the SUV in the process.

The Kodiaq RS has been delayed to hit the local showrooms owing to the fact that Australia was seen as a ‘hot and dusty’ climate. However, recently a review conducted by Skoda and the Volkswagen Group concluded Australia as a “moderately hot country”. They also found the climate to be similar to certain regions of Europe. This also hints towards the arrival of other high- performance models from Skoda, Volkswagen as well as Audi.

Michael Irmer, director of Skoda Australia said, “Since its launch, we have been working tirelessly to bring the Kodiaq RS to our shores.” He further added “The project to bring the high-performance bi-turbo diesel-powered Kodiaq RS has seen collaboration between Australian and Czech technical teams sharing data and know-how. It is because of their shared passion for the Skoda brand, and this exciting car, that we can finally offer an RS-spec SUV.”

The company hasn’t revealed anything regarding the price. But as for now, we know that Kodiaq RS will be powered by a twin-turbo 2.0-litre diesel engine that churns out a maximum power of 176 kW and a peak torque of 500 Nm. The powertrain will help the coaster to complete the century sprint within 7.0 seconds.
