Skoda confirms a limited-run Superb Scout with petrol particulate filter
Skoda confirms the launch of a limited-run Superb Scout with the first petrol particulate filter (PPF) in a car. The vehicle will be amongst the first offering from Skoda Australia to get a PPF arrangement.
With an arrival scheduled in the second half of 2020, the car will be a high-riding 4x4 based on the Superb Scout wagon. The vehicle with the emissions-tackling technology aims towards tackling the Australian fuel standards. These standards allow five times more sulphur in 'premium' unleaded than European fuel.
Skoda says that there will be "several hundred" examples of the car to be offered in the Australian market. However, the automaker is expected to release up to 500 units of the car locally. If the car faces high demands in its time run, the Scout will be added to the Superb permanent range, as per the rumors.
Interestingly, the new Scout wagon will get an improved ground clearance with an extra 15 mm of raised body level. The other additions to the limited run include an off-road driving mode, alloy bash plates, and underbody protection for the ultimate off-roading experience.
The 4x4 Superb Scout is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, generating a maximum power output of 268 hp along with producing a peak torque of up to 350 Nm. The transmission of the vehicle is handled by a seven-speed DSG transmission that powers the four wheels.
Skoda's local director, Michael Irmer explained, "This particulate filter can withstand petrol with 50 parts per million of sulfur, but it must be understood that these cars can run only on premium unleaded." He also said, "While that's also true of all our non-filtered petrol cars, which will not run to their full capability on basic unleaded petrol, 'underfuelling' accidentally or to save money at the pump will rapidly require the costly replacement of the filter."
The off-road-ready 4x4 Superb Scout wagon will cost $59,490, excluding the on-road costs.
