Second-gen Renault Captur unveiled
Renault has unveiled the second-generation Captur overnight. The car rides on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance CMF-B architecture that also underpins the new Clio.
The new Captur exterior gets C-shaped headlights, similar to that of the Clio. In addition, the taillight design is also identical. The company is offering the car in 90 exterior colour combinations with the customers specifying 11 options for the main body along with three lower body colours (orange, grey, and white) and four roof colours (white, black, grey, and orange).
The 2020 Renault Captur specs sheet reads that the car measures 4,228 mm in length (106 mm more), 1,797 mm in width (19 mm more), and 1,566 mm in height (1 mm lower). The wheelbase is now 33 mm longer and measures 2,639 mm.
The two-tier boot has grown in capacity by 27-litre and can now take in 536-litres worth of luggage. The rear seats can not only fold and split, but can slide forward by around 16 cm.
While the exterior of the new Captur looks similar to the original model, it is the interior that looks world apart. The latest model sports a floating pod for transmission shifter, soft-touch surfaces, and bright colours. The company is offering the car with 18 interior customisation options that include trim packs for the upholstery, vents, dashboard, gear lever surround, door inserts, and ambient lighting.
The range-topping model gets a 10-inch digital instrumentation screen and 9.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The lesse Captur trim features a 7.0-inch information cluster along with a 7.0-inch touchscreen.
The 2020 Captur is loaded with safety features, the kit includes automatic high beam operation, autonomous emergency braking, semi-automated parking, lane-keeping assistance, a surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitoring, lane centring assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality.
As for the car's under the hood configuration, it is available in three petrol and two diesel options. The former includes a 101 PS/ 160 Nm TCe 100 1.0-litre 3-cylinder mill that is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Next up is a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder unit that is available in two tunings - a TGe 130 GPF producing 131 PS / 240 NM with and a TGe 155 GPF.with 155 PS / 270 Nm. A 6-speed manual is offered as standard, while the TGe 155 GPF can be had with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Also, included in the list are two 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel units. First is a Blue DCi 95 developing 95 PS/ 204 Nm, while other is a Blue DCi 115 churning 116 PS/260 Nm. The 116 PS can be had in 7-speed dual transmission, while a 6-speed manual comes as standard.
By the year 2020, Europe will get a Captur E-Tech plug-in model with a 1.6-litre petrol mill with 9.8kWh lithium-ion battery.
