Porsche breaks the cover off new 911 RSR

Following the huge success of its predecessor, Porsche has unveiled the new 911 RSR sportscar racer at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. In its new design, the engine of the car is placed before the rear axle. The new car is said to have the potential to defend FIA World Endurance Championship title.

The new 911 RSR gets a lot of updates to improve the performance and surpass the 991 RSR’s success at the world championship of the brands and drivers in the FIA WEC.

Through Porsche Motorsport’s vice president, Fritz Enzinger, the company has released its official statement. As per the brand, “ Since 2017, the 911 RSR has yielded us more than 20 class wins in the world championship as well as at long-distance series in North America and Europe. Our job in development was to make a very good car even better. The engineers at Weissach have perfectly implemented this in every aspect.”

It also stated that 2019 911 RSR’s 95 percent is new, only the headlights, parts of the suspension, clutch, brake system, driver’s seat are taken from the predecessor. Mechanically, the racing machine is equipped with an updated naturally-aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine of the 991.2 RSR. The displacement is now increased to 4.2-litres, which can make a maximum power of 515 hp, while the power output will depend on the restrictor plate’s size. It is the stiffer six-speed sequential racing gearbox that sends the power to the wheels. 

The testing phase is done in the Le Castellet in March 2019 and it made a successful run of around 6,000 kilometres for over 30 hours without having any technical issues. It made clear that the new 911 RSR is ready to give tough competition in the WEC.

The racing machine will start its journey FIA WEC’s season-opening round which will be held on September 1, 2019 at Silverstone.
