Peugeot gives us a glimpse of its Le Mans racer

It was 2011 when the world witnessed Peugeot racing at the Le Mans. So, it has been good eight years since the French automaker hit the roads at the world's oldest active sports car race in endurance racing. Things are soon to be changed, though, as Peugeot is all set to make a return to what is also known as "Grand Prix of Endurance and Efficiency". Moreover, Peugeot will be working in tandem with Rebellion Racing in developing and manufacturing its hypercar for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the new Le Mans Hypercar category in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

According to the WEC guidelines, the hypercar needs to be a hybrid automobile, although we are yet to hear something from Peugeot and Rebellion Racing regarding the hypercar. Moving on, the hypercar will only hit the Le Mans roads in 2022, with the engineers putting forward the "main lines" of the project in the next month. WEC Hypercar Class will replace the LMP1 category in the 2020/21 season itself.

Interestingly enough, FIA regulations make it mandatory for an automaker to produce at 20 street-legal examples of its hypercar. So, it's gonna be really interesting to see how both the Peugeot's first-ever hypercar and its production model turn out to be. Having a good look at the only image of Peugeot's upcoming hypercar, the outrageous looking automobile seems to be taking design clues from the likes of the Peugeot 208 and others. Elements like an aggressive front end, LED DRLs, headlamps, and a massive rear wing. The best part will, however, be to see this menacing hypercar roaring on the regular roads.

Since this will be the first time for Peugeot to both develop and race a hypercar, the French automaker previously tasted success at the Le Mans with its 908 series LMP1 cars.
